I can't remember ever being bitten by mosquitos through clothes. I do recall seemingly being targeted by every mosquito in the world for any inch of unclothed skin exposed.

It would seem to me that a piece of fabric would need to be pretty tight for a mosquito to bite through to you. Their proboscis thingy isn't that long.

If the cloth is resting on the skin, its no problem for the mosquito to penetrate most lighter fabrics. It wont be able to get at the parts cover by loosely hanging fabric.

Mosquitoes almost never bother me. I started drinking one sip of real apple cider vinegar and honey every day for the health benefits. After a few months I noticed that the bugs don't bother me much any longer.
My grandpa would chew a match head every once in a while. He said the sulfur kept the bugs away.
If you have trouble with deer flies or horse flies then break off a little piece of indigo plant and put it somewhere on your body. I usually stick it in the back of my cap. They will still land on you but they won't bite, usually.
