Humans are also a species of animal. Evolution teaches us that just because a trait is somewhat advantageous or beneficial does not mean it will become part of a species nature. Evolution tends to occur when that trait directly leads to the avoidance of an early death and thus outbreeding can occur with the new trait.

In this context, most people are "smart enough". If a one hundred or more IQ was an evolutionary minimum due to the presence of some apex predator or similar then we'd all have one - even niggers. But it isn't an evolutionary minimum, even most niggers can outwit an animal.

Evolution produces order from chaos, and excellence from mediocrity, by ruthlessly culling the low end of the bell curve, with every generation, for every trait that matters. As a species and its civilization approaches the level of intelligence and advancement necessarily for becoming interstellar, they will also create all manner of comforts, and entertainment, and medicine, and safeties for themselves.

After all, those are the sweet fruits of civilization. But they are poisonous. Rotten. Because they undermine and destroy the very evolutionary filter that gave rise to the civilization to begin with. And so, without that filter, it withers and dies, as chaos and mediocrity take over once more. Eventually, the chaos causes the comforts fail, and so the filters are restored, and the cycle begins anew.

The only way to break this cycle is by recognizing the problem ahead of time, enshrining eugenic pressures as core values of the civilization, and enforcing them with measured prejudice. We almost had that at one point, not too long ago. But the hordes of mediocrity were already too numerous, and trampled it in a fit of rage at its beauty and splendor.

Sharpening your observational skills is a learned skill like sculpting.

2- People are generally lazy. It's easier to be stupid.
3 - The governments of the world want a mostly stupid populace of useless eaters to consume mass quantities. So the masses are given bad education, poor food, and environmental contaminants. All of which drive the IQ even lower.

I think that mostly covers it. Also, it's endemic to the human condition. If everything collapsed tomorrow and a small band of smart healthy people started over, they'd be doing exactly that. Starting the whole cycle over. They'd end up where we are now.

Oddly I listened to a book that blamed it on farming and domestication of animals

Before farming the most intelligent independent hunter types reproduced. You had to be smart to be an independent human at the time. Brain size increased iq etc...

Farming doesn't require high iq just boring and being able to deal with boredom and you had a lot of food to reproduce a lot of kids and farm hands.

Then the smart people became the rulers and shop keepers and didn't have as many kids.

It kind of makes sense.

There are studies that show decrease in brain size between early humans and modern ones, IQ is dropping as well. I’d say it’s because humanity is too successful as species, and this led to us not being subject to very strict natural selection. In a society of idiots it’s tiring to be of average intelligence, it must be nightmare for geniuses.

If a life has low value, the parent must have a lot of offspring to be successful ie. Mouse or Africa.

If a life has a high value, extreme support must be given to young to support them. Ie. Lions, Europeans, Nordics, Arians.

Just lots of low value people in the world trying to pass down their genes.
