Meh, we had a Saturn V back then It was the largest rocket ever made and no rocket until Spaceship has been as large.
This isn't really a matter of "losing the technology" so much as having a rocket with the correct kinetic energy. You can't go to the moon with a rocket engine you buy from the Walmart toy section.

The saturn V rocket was hand assembled. It wasnt mass oroduced. Eaxh rocket qas different and had to be maintained like a german tank
