To show you how worthless the promise of future monies is when seeking a job just realize that if you had started a career in 1957 when this car was being sold and you were promised a pension when you retired and let's say 50 or let's make it 80 years to make the math today easier. You can see how what you would have been promised that would have been seen as a reasonable percentage pension would actually be completely worthless in 80 years when you retired.

This is why we cannot fall for the trick of pensions and other future promises of money and you must amass your cash today in all forms you can and prefer payment today and exchange it immediately for things of ownership and value like land and permanent housing preferably in an area or taxes can't be raised and you forced utilities bills and other things cannot be imposed upon you to basically circumvent your ownership of that property. After that you must also invest in things that provide you with income that far exceed the devaluation of the dollar.

I just put new skins on my F350 4x4...$2,800.00...the truck is a 2020 and there's a recall issued for the steering linkage components which could cause high speed wobble and "EXCESSIVE UNNATURAL TIRE WEAR"...recall was warranty but tires aren't. FUCKING PISS ME OFF.

I have a 2019 single cab short bed that hauls nothing but ass!

I had a 2007 Ford Ranger did what it needed to do.

i dont know why people keep farting around with these new trucks. they are overpriced plastic junk that people use as status symbols.

No kidding. I drive a 2003 F150 with 300k miles on it. Lumber rack, 4:11 upgrade, tranny cooler, shift kit, 4.6, tow bar, trailer brakes, E load range tires and 2500 lb Helwig rear spring upgrade. I calculate I’ve done 4.5 million in gross sales of product delivery and install with this truck in the 18 years I’ve owned it.

with the 3 valve triton?! you must be meticulous with your maintenance or the luckiest bugger alive. those cam phasers are an abomination.

Idk about the valve count. I only know the 5.4 blowers spark plugs out the holes. Probably a casting issue.

the v-10 does it too. you'll hear them out in the wild making that unmistakable whooshing sound.

GMT800 ftw!

5.3 or 6.0? love it! cheap and easy to fix. dependable. safe. capable. thats a big winner.

LQ9 :)

Definitely a dependable workhorse.

I don't care for the higher towing capacity of modern trucks or the fancy bells & whistles. They do everything to discourage self maintenance while making shop labor costs shoot up. Shit, I ripped out the abs pump in mine while redoing my brake lines when I learned I needed a computer to bleed it. Only idiots needs that anyways.

i have the same engine. no complaints but the exhaust manifolds. absolute workhorse of an engine. i have one on my redneck special. it has a little jib crane on it that i use to disassemble and haul away big parts, machine tires, etc. it will only lift about 800 lbs, more if i hook up the snatch block.

Cohensidentally convenient

What cost $895 in 1955 would cost $10,050.02 in 2022.

$10k for a new car, not too shabby. Though of course it's missing a lot of the creature comforts of modern cars, and the durability and handling leaves something to be desired. At least there's very little electronics to worry about.

And it looks good doing it. I could see a market for something like that today. Too bad the gov wouldn't allow it.

Some of the old body styles would look great today

Refurbishing and reselling the chassis of junked cars.

This article sounds familiar.

[ - ] KangzNSheeit 0 points 11 monthsMay 19, 2023 02:14:54 ago (+0/-0)

They're advertising cars 2 years newer, so the $895 car is at least 2 years old. I'd assume the dealer is used only, so the $895 car is probably 3 years old. Cars from that period would rarely make it 100,000 miles, so 3 years of use could have been a significant amount of it's longevity.

stop noticing things! it makes them angry!

[ - ] Master_Foo 1 point 11 monthsMay 18, 2023 14:34:33 ago (+1/-0)

To be fair, your tires probably have 1000 space age technologies built in to them. That 55 chevy doesn't even have air conditioning.

Likewise, people are always saying, "Houses back then were so cheap". What they aren't telling you is, the houses were just 4 brick walls and a roof.

[ - ] con77 [op] 2 points 11 monthsMay 18, 2023 14:43:17 ago (+2/-0)

I used to refinish antique oak and heart pine floors in 80 yo houses 20 years ago. back then they used newspapers to stop wind from blowing through the seams in a wood floor. We'd find newspapers from the 20's that advertised 2 story wood frame houses for $1200.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 0 points 11 monthsMay 18, 2023 15:00:53 ago (+0/-0)

What cost $1200 in 1920 would cost $18,057.28 in 2022.

Honestly not bad in some areas, even considering construction improvements over the years. Better than a few years in an apartment, even without electricity.

Those houses are hundreds of thousands in Florida now
