Then my wife starts getting emails from the manufacturer asking why we had opted not to connect.
First, I don’t want another thing in my house that the feds can use as a bug. I can imagine the day when the manufacturer would turn off my appliance and switch to some bullshit carbon saving subscription. Gonna be doing a lot of cooking on Thanksgiving? You had best upgrade to the ‘Mayflower’ level. It would be a shame if you hit your carbon limit before the cooking is done.

Chop shops will open up all over to hack and bypass anything new, little software devs will make apps like FORscan to open up basically all the diagnostic features the techs get at a fraction of the cost.
Right-to-own is taking off in a big way across multiple states, and it keeps winning because it's a winning issue. Your sentiment is shared by the vast majority of people whether they know it or not. At some point everyone will encounter extortion from the manufacturer to a level they dislike, and Right-to-own will ultimately win. Ideally people would wake up on the way though.
