"We" did nothing of the kind. Dogs have always been been able to bond emotionally with other species, a capacity that was provided for them by nature. Very early on, dogs recognized that being part of the human's pack was advantageous for both of use and they allowed it. But they give much more to us than we give them, so they are a gift from nature, which we should never take advantage of.

Oh, okay, just like we bred raccoons and badgers to be close companions to humans. You're right, nature has absolutely nothing to do with breeding out undesirable traits, as long as humans control the breeding. It's a shame, though, after so much time and so much effort on the part of humans, that we couldn't breed Africans to become better companions to humans. They still remains the same wild, unpredictable animals as their forebears and their kin in Africa.
