I propose that anyone over 80 be returned to the legal care of their children

submitted by TheViciousMrPim to whatever 12 monthsMay 7, 2023 16:36:38 ago (+11/-3)     (whatever)

When children are children, they are recognized as being, morons. They can't care for themselves. They can't work, they have no real leagl rights beyond basic human rights. They are effectively property of their parents.

People over 80 should return to this state. Their children should have all legal rights and obligations.

Edit
People w shitty parent have a problem w this. Expectidly uninteresting

This is one of those "in a perfect world" situations. The kind that is nothing but a miserable failure in the real world.

My parents want so badly to never burden me that I'm told of near death experiences Months later. Major car accidents, GI bleeds with ambulance and ICU stay, back surgery... which was elective, but still. They've talked about ending their own lives so they will never be a burden.

But, unironically, if you like the idea of caring for your parents, you're free to do so (if they allow... lol, you're Not suggesting taking away free will, are you?) Strange that someone here would think that it's right/good/acceptable to force their beliefs on others ~ very un-voat-like.

It's a good idea in that it promotes good parenting and solves bad parenting. If you actually raise your children by promoting good morals and a healthy work ethic.

The problem I believe is the State. The state taxes the hell out of anyone who strives to be self sufficient economically. It punishes success and rewards sloth.

Even now as you post this the normies are thinking........well I want a tax deduction like they got for me as a keed!

Eh my grandparents are in their 90s, and they are perfectly fine on their own.

I wouldn't limit it on an age, it would be dependent on their independence. If a parent has dementia while the other parent cannot take care of their spouse, then kids should help. Could be in their 60s.

Medical power of attorney sort of does this...if they are unable to physically take care of themselves, the power of attorney is the one who'd call the shots. Usually, that arrangement is agreed upon years in advance and traditionally it's the elderly parent turning it over to one of their kids.

When I hit 80, I will not be a burden on my family.

A good parent will never be a burden to their children.
Any parent who is a burden, or will be a burden, is a horrible parent.

If your parents didn't raise you right, then learn from their mistakes, don't repeat them, and suffer in silence.
Do not be a burden on your kids, or they will grow up to be a burden on your grandkids.

If you're a good person, and you love your family, you will never become a burden to them.
I will never be a burden to my kids. And I have great parents who will never allow themselves to be a burden to me.

Fuck you! In two years my cunt-of-a-mother will turn 80 and I’m not doing shit nothing for her. I’ll send her your way.

In today's society of greed that is a necessary measure, but it should not have to be that way

Boomers won't like this. Their kids hate them. Also, if they are broke aren't leaving me anything, why are my parents my problem?

If someone lived through the biggest market bull run in history and still failed to secure their future then I feel no pity. I remember the 2001 recession, the 2008 recession, and the recent covid bullshit vividly. Seems like nothing but recession since my generation became of age

You were their problem when you were young, so you have to pay it back.

But more importantly, your parents are now children, their mental capacity has returned where it began and now it's your turn to be a caretaker.

and I don't want them running around breaking shit.

OK Boomer.
Your kids owe you nothing.

Bullshit. Blow me.

[ - ] TheViciousMrPim [op] 0 points 12 monthsMay 7, 2023 17:44:54 ago (+0/-0)

Because you started as their problem and you have to close the circle.

Agreed.
