Nuclear powered aircraft carriers.. technically steam ships.

[ - ] BadBoyBubby 9 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 07:58:07 ago (+9/-0)

we've been living in steampunk this whole time?

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 6 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 11:02:09 ago (+6/-0)

Unironically yes.

[ - ] HeavyBrain 1 point 1 yearMay 7, 2023 18:08:14 ago (+1/-0)

FFS thank you very much, I didn't sleep in around 30+ hours and now I got that going in my brain.

Yep, this whole, everything was a lie. I mean I knew it was, but not to this extent

[ - ] JudyStroyer 6 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 05:06:48 ago (+6/-0)

Exactly. Subs too.

[ - ] NigNinja 5 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 04:36:47 ago (+5/-0)

But the sun just boils water too though.

[ - ] Inward 3 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 09:47:21 ago (+3/-0)

Solar panels don't use water.

You are a kookifying faggot.

[ - ] NigNinja 0 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 10:10:00 ago (+0/-0)

They use the sun's hydrogen stores.

Solar panels run on boiled water.

[ - ] Inward 0 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 21:34:46 ago (+0/-0)

I can only hope you are trolling.

[ - ] Wahaha 3 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 06:33:10 ago (+3/-0)

What else would you want to boil?

[ - ] BulletStopper 5 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 07:05:58 ago (+5/-0)*

How about jew york city, for starters? 1 megaton sub-surface burst.

Let the Hudson fill in the crater and prevailing winds will take the steam and fallout east out into the Atlantic.

Hitler was right. \o
(And no, I don't live in Florida, so fuck you Ron.)

i had a similar idea. copper wires, dipped in sludge, hammered up on trees, then strung out across the landscape so jimmy kimmel can lie to you.

We are also water filters, especially those that live near rivers. Much like an oyster.

I have long wanted to harness the power of expanding water when freezing and expanding water while heating… combine it all with some nitinol tech… achieve that sweet ass overunity dream… never tell anyone and live my life out with abundance.

[ - ] oyveyo 3 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 05:58:13 ago (+3/-0)

Well the temperature to freeze water is very very precise and you only have to fluctuate it like .1 degrees... how much expansion force can you get given a volume of water? Is the mechanical force generated sufficient to power the freeze/thaw cycle? Is there enough energy left over for practical use? The mechanical force, I know, is tremendous... enough to split solid granite. The travel is minuscule, you'd have to use insane ratios on whatever method you use to convert the tiny SUPER STRONG kinetic force into a much larger yet weaker motion to drive generators. A gear train, a lever with the tightest pivot you've ever seen, or hydraulics might work.

People will tell you overunity is impossible. I don't buy that. Did you know the common HVAC heat pump is an overunity device? It does more work than it should for the energy you put into it. Good luck.

[ - ] usedoilanalysis 3 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 06:51:48 ago (+3/-0)

I get what you're saying, you can change that precise level with a change of air pressure. Atmospheric pressure can vary 5% daily, with it the freezing and boiling point.

[ - ] x0x7 3 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 07:53:07 ago (+3/-0)

Plus when you use it to try to do work and use it to apply a force you are going to be changing the pressure on the water/ice (equal and opposite force and pressure is force) and thus changing its freezing point.

Also if HVAC is an over unity device as ovyeyo says, we will pretend that's true, maybe that's an indicator that over unity devices aren't a secret to infinite abundance. At the end of the day if an over unity device gives off more energy than is put in you are still limited to the energy it happens to put out. All energy is free before it come to you. You aren't paying for the sun or wind. The question is is the material cost the best (least) for what energy you will receive from it. It is entirely possible that you could build an over unity device and it have no significant impact. "You could not build an over unity device because then you would automatically become the master of the universe." Lame bullshit science communicator trope.

Conflating work with energy.

[ - ] usedoilanalysis 0 points 1 yearMay 7, 2023 08:38:14 ago (+0/-0)

Exactly, the energy output will always be proportional to the energy input. Even if over unity exists, the power limits may make such overunity impractical.

stirling engine

[ - ] jigganiggaboo 0 points 1 yearMay 8, 2023 03:00:00 ago (+0/-0)

Still steam powered but with extra steps

helion fusion energy.

it works without water

the plasma pushes against a magnetic field, and that produces electricity directly. kinda neat, yet still in development.

Combustion produces water. Air and hydrocarbons combine to form water and release energy in the process. Forming bonds releases energy, exothermic reaction. Breaking bonds absorbs energy, endothermic reaction.
