Super hard material also means very long machining time, and all those parts moving means more heat, means everything is going to be fucked up faster by either dirt, lubrication or it will just limit the speed it can rotate at. It's a cool design if you are using like space age materials that have no heat, friction, weight and can make them easily. But then again, if you had all that, you could also just make a gear and chain out of those badass materials as well.
