Try driving up Hwy 1 to San francisco and see if there's any area along the way that seems likely. I'm in a smallish town that's more than doubled in population since I moved here 42 years ago. Still seems like other places have gotten worse faster.

I lived in Greenpoint as a teen. I rented a room there on Sutton Street. I also worked at a bar there on and off for about 8 years until it closed down. Greenpoint has a more urban feel to it than my neighborhood does. Also. Until like 2005 when the hipsters started populating it, those homes there were very cheap because the neighborhood was mostly Italian, German and Puerto Rican working class morons. Now that out of town wealth has made it chic, the homes are worth millions.
