Uh. You do know that orbits are perpendicular to the Earth, right? If you launch something straight up, it doesn't enter an orbit and comes right back down, like Bezos' New Shepard space tourism rockets. The boosters accelerate sideways to add some delta-V to the payload, then the 2nd stage adds even more.
