How good content here is suppressed with bad titles

submitted by Crackinjokes to TellUpgoat 2.2 yearsApr 17, 2023 08:43:37 ago (+22/-1)     (TellUpgoat)

Good content here is constantly wasted because people put non-descriptive titles which actually sort of detract from the content.

Honestly this was a trick that used to be done on Reddit to suppress a good link and then reddit would not let you post the link again.

So people would subvert good links by putting bad titles on them and then when you wanted to repost the link with a good title that was actually descriptive to get it attention reddit would not let you post the link twice.

I kind of suspect that's what's going on here.

Don't name things cute things. Name them what they actually show so people know to look at the link.

Exactly. For instance, if I were to repost this thread I would change the title to:

How good content here is suppressed with bad titles reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Luckily there's nothing preventing anyone from reposting. Some need to meme less and read more...titles will get better, especially if they're a native English speaker.

BobDole9 speaks for me. Just put it up again with a better title. Simple. We see duplicate/triplecates/quadruplicat posts of hot and breaking news all the time.

I kind of agree. Lots of the titles suck pretty bad.

I don't think the problem is suppressing content though. But it does shit up the place and make it look like we're a bunch of low iq niggers.

The only content that is garunteed to be seen is a picture that is easy to understand

Reddit is also notorious for saying "Do not editorialize the titles" which is exactly what you are saying to do.

There is nothing here that prevents you from posting the same link.

[ - ] Crackinjokes [op] 0 points 2.2 yearsApr 18, 2023 05:58:24 ago (+0/-0)

Reddit started adopting the don't editorial as titles thing and started making you actually use the actual title that the article used when people begin to do a very smart thing. They would go through an article that was about one thing but they would find a very relevant point about say Jews or something contrary to the woke mantra's going around within the article and they would title the post to bring attention to that fact which was documented in the article rather than the headline which itself was often a misdirection done by the corporate media to downplay the important information in the article. Reddit Tyler's are not the only ones trying to miss title articles. Mainstream media would do it with their own articles.

I've noticed that as well, but I doubt it's intentional. Sometimes when I'm posting an article my brain just freezes when I need to come up with a title. I probably not the only one that happens to

[ - ] SecretHitler 2 points 2.2 yearsApr 17, 2023 10:44:55 ago (+2/-0)

How does your brain freeze up? Just say what it is you're linking to. It doesn't need to be clever

You can repost links under your own description, afaik.

[ - ] lastlist 1 point 2.2 yearsApr 17, 2023 10:09:54 ago (+1/-0)

I kind of suspect that's what's going on here.

Still doesn't know how this site works. Repost or archive the original link with fancy title.

As I type this comment on the front page right now is this link:

"The whole thing is interesting but just watch the last 2 minutes if you don't want to hear that"

What the fuck is interesting? OP doesn't say so I'm not wasting my time clicking the link. I don't think transsexual squirrels are interesting. How do I know it's not transsexual squirrels? I don't want to waste my time watching transsexual squirrels or stock reports from Madagascar or some local city councilman from Timbuktu talk about parking fines going up.

It looks like the OP of this post and the OP of the other post are the same person. Aint that a hoot.

How are you bitching about bad titles when you're the one posting bad titles?

Forum sliding is also a thing

they get together and spam comments/posts if something "undesireable" happens

like heyjames being outed as an inbred kike

just because their bad titties doesnt mean i still don’t wanna see em at least once.

i keep reading your title as titties. it’s a bad title. /s

[ - ] x0x7 0 points 2.2 yearsApr 17, 2023 15:12:32 ago (+0/-0)

My experience is that a descriptive title is not always the best. It depends on what context. You don't want to give away the punchline, but to describe the actual point of the video you would have to.

My go to is describe the first 8th of the video. It's the job of the video to introduce you to the next part.

[ - ] SecretHitler 0 points 2.2 yearsApr 17, 2023 17:36:16 ago (+0/-0)

You're describing clickbait. I agree with you if it's a video where the enjoyment comes from being surprised, but for news stories or informational posts that's not the case and bad titles just make people feel like their time was wasted.

Let's test your theory with an article I liked awhile back. I haven't looked to see how it did but I do know it was a good article. Hang on.......

So no, your theory doesn't hold in this case at least.

I read ALOT of the content here, more than I ever comment on. Sometimes it's just half if it's mediocre or I may skim it if it has an overt bias to it but I read the shit out of shit here. This was a good article and it got no traction whatsoever.

I'm not saying you're "wrong", I'm just saying that people will generally get "caught" by a catchy title and then maybe, maybe they will read it.

I try to comment on posts like this just to say thank you for posting it because many times it would feel like a waste of their time when it isn't.

Shit, let's look at his other posts and see if he tried going the other way.....

Nope, they're all pretty straight forward and it's a hit and miss thing for him.
