To load your ATV's, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

I kinda have to agree with the nag.

But it worked!

It’s playing the odd, one day, it will kill you.

It never ceases to amaze me what cheap asses will do in order to avoid buying the proper equipment

He's probably up against the payload limit, but assuming he fixes them down safely, the transport method isn't the worst (yea trailer is probably best). But he's not even being a good cheap ass. You can get a 2 ton hoist and a couple of slings for a little over $100 (or less if you're patient) which is probably 1/2 what those ramps cost. Use the other half to build a jig or find a sure limb on a tree and hoist them bitches up and down.

You can get cheaper, lighter hoists that'd work too, but 2-ton is a pretty versatile weight limit good for more than just lifting ATVs.

I think he's talking about a simple chain hoist. Which is something you can stuff in the back somewhere. The slings might take up more room, depending on the size and amount of chain used.

Yea my 2 ton hoist and the straps fit in a 2 gallon bucket that I could pack under the ATVs. I don't think my straps are quite big enough for those, so upgrade it to a 5-gallon bucket and you've got your ride along removal rig for 1/2 the cost and a fraction of the storage space of those ramps. And you don't fuck up the side of your truck with the ramps.

There are truck-mountable collapsible hoist arms available as well.

A nice hoist and proper thought can save you having to call over several people to help you with shit. Or with hauling heavy shit through tight spaces.

You can just call them for the bbq afterwords.

Probably a stupid question, but would a 4 wheeler ever serve a functional purpose other than recreational? I know they can get a trailer hitch, but I'm wondering when someone would be kicking themselves because they didnt bring a 4 wheeler

Large yards, ranching, farming, building, etc. Anywhere you would need more than human power but wouldn't want to bother with a full-sized truck. Some are built specifically to have large flat areas on them for doing/dragging/building/carrying whatever on them.

I miss the days of genuinely small work-trucks.

That would almost certainly net an unsecured load fine in my county.

There must be a better way .. surely!

Q: What's the difference between crazy and clever?

A: Several gallons of blood.

Buy a trailer. You'll live longer.
That won't work well when things are muddy and wet.

He can't really get on it normally due to looping so this is actually safer even if it doesn't look it. But then again, he should just buy a trailer.
