Yeah, he must have had it running. Here's my guess; The would-be thief couldn't get the car to go anywhere because it was probably on "remote start" mode. You have to insert the key and press the brake to disengage in order to shift into gear or the car will shut off. So I imagine the 'youf' was a bit flustered for a second, which is what gave the owner time to get out there and nearly take the concrete temperature challenge himself, were it not for his wife.
