Love that design era!

There's a house here that I see on my dog walks. It's made with modern materials but it's styled like a medieval home. Very cool looking. It has the down-turned roof angles and plaster+stick pattern and everything. A bit like this.

Modernist communist architecture is just as ugly as the first designs, but with more glass. And they are taller.

I want my cities to look like Gotham City in the Batman cartoon from the 90's.

While I love Art Deco, the later 'brutalist' building styles were mostly based on economics and construction time, not the kikes tryna demoralize us.

Its not my all time favorite period either. There are some pretty examples but it feels too “modern” to me and somehow cartoonish.

I wouldn't define those as brutalist.

I live in NYC and we should get hit with an asteroid.

Those 1960s buildings are still better than the modern art crap made now

Euro-trash houses?

Frank Lloyd Wright might be the only exception.

To be fair, those were buildings built by someone paying to have a building look pretty. The 50s and 60s buildings that wasn't the point. The real problem is further in the future where they are putting effort into aesthetics and it looks worse.

Personally I find "Art Deco," which to me means rounded corners and softer lines replace the rigid Palladian concept of straight lines and right angles that dominates suburban architecture, tiresome .. as well I prefer the functional "Brutalist" style over the fancy AD style at any time.

One looks more efficient than the other. Materials are finite. I could give a shit what buildings look like, how efficiently is it built and operated?

[ - ] UncleDoug [op] 3 points 1 yearApr 14, 2023 13:11:28 ago (+3/-0)

Glass reduces a structure's deadload and construction cost, but at the expense of energy efficiency and arguably aesthetic. As the huge amounts of glass in modern architecture mean that these skyscrapers lose heat in winter and absorb too much heat in summer, tallying up enormous air-conditioning costs.

Architects and engineers as recently as 2019 are calling for a ban on all-glass skyscrapers because of their energy inefficiency in favour of more subdued glass and traditional designs that incorporate better use of natural materials like stone, granite and minimalist glazed plexi-glass.

OK, information assimilated, but the buildings are efficient in other was not related to temperature. Building things using unneeded materials for "muh aesthetic" is my problem. Those older buildings used materials, which are finite, for no functional reasoning. There has to be a middle ground somewhere.

According to you paintings should be banned since they are purely for aesthetics?

[ - ] ghetto_shitlord -1 points 1 yearApr 15, 2023 02:19:56 ago (+0/-1)

A painting isn't a building, I also mentioned a middle ground between the two concepts.

Fucks sake.

[ - ] Wahaha 1 point 1 yearApr 15, 2023 05:41:21 ago (+1/-0)

A painting uses materials and someone's time all the same. The point is that aesthetics are important.
