There was a three phase attack on public messaging forums:

1) Forum software was "upgraded" to architectures relying on shared libraries and unstable insecure database technologies in the name of "speed". This results in a lot of vectors for attack and it is the reason so many forums get hacked constantly. This is how they physically control access to forums. There are bot scripts being run on hostile servers worldwide that target message board forums every second of every day. In addition, once a forum is hacked it is almost permanently downgraded on google.

A lot of forum software went from being software locally installed to a service hosted by a third party. If the owners of the forum service don't like what you are writing, they simply "suspend" (delete) your forum entirely. With these "hosted" forums, message boards are no longer truly run by the forum admins.

2) Forums owned by big companies closed them down due to "hate speech" and "disinformation". Think things like IMDB message boards or commenting on news sites. This is a simple way to control speech - just remove the forums.

3) Finally, you can't find a forum on google if it's not on google. Only "reliable sources" and "trusted news" makes it to the front page. You can't find a new forum with like-minded people if it's not in the search engine. They simply removed the forums from the search results.

Everything woke turns to shit. They won't let you run ads by zipcode, because zipcodes are racist. Nevermind business territory is defined by zipcodes.

google censors everything all the time really hard now. or harder than they used to.

Irrelevant stupid recent observed example: I used to listen to music using google play music. It was a pretty cool service where it would addaptively try to predict songs it thought I might like, and it did this pretty well. It suggested Johnny Rebel for me once, which was cool. Well, they got rid of all that and replaced it with some youtube bullshit... and Johnny Rebel can't even be found whatsoever on that far inferior service.

No surprise. I definitely use Yandex for any important searches.

It is not only that they bamboozle yr search request as well, I keyed in "marijuana use in US prisons," and got hundreds of links re "how many are in prison on mj charges," and bs sob stories about how black ppl are discriminated against but nothing on mj use in prisons, as well Google will link you to movies and rock bands while yr search request gets totally ignored, thus searching for "hocus pocus" a full page of Bette Midler turned up, while "pixies" yielded a second rate punk rock outfit.

I haven't used Google as my primary search engine for more than 10 years. At first it was duck duck go and then they started censoring and now I use brave search within the browser. Although it seems like brave search is also starting to limit the number of returns you get.
