Well, the fuckers are trying to make me retire from work.

submitted by OoklaTheMok to whatever 1 yearApr 11, 2023 15:17:09 ago (+40/-0)     (whatever)

I crushed the shit out of my right hand last August and almost ripped my ring finger off. I was on light duty until February and my job skills are lacking. I run a 5 axis laser CNC and I can't lift much weight with that arm, so it's interfering with my work. Sigh. I can barely even play my guitar for 5 fucking minutes because my hand won't hold a pick for long. Getting old fucking blows and I'm still in my forties. Jesus Christ, I'm fucked. Rant over, I guess...lol

Remember when we were 20 and were going to live forever? Yeah, hard to believe we were ever that young and dumb.

Life changing workplace injuries are the reason workers compensation exists. Is your shop not covered or something? Or is it just a matter of time and, presumably, therapy until you'll be back to how you were before?

[ - ] Jerd34 5 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 16:09:03 ago (+5/-0)

you will live forever. Don't forget who you are.

[ - ] Belfuro 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 18:44:28 ago (+2/-0)

Getting old just does suck. And the injuries compound.

While our mental accumen goes through the roof.

Did you crush your hand at work? If so make them pay for your retirement.

[ - ] OoklaTheMok [op] 9 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 17:29:07 ago (+9/-0)

No, unfortunately. I was hooking my boat up to my truck to pull it out of the garage and forgot to chock the tires. My garage has about a one inch drop where the doors are and it shot forward and got me good. Blood everywhere. It was a dumbass moment. I know better and the one time I forget...

[ - ] Broc_Liath 5 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 17:59:52 ago (+5/-0)

My whole body clenched hearing that, nightmare fuel. Glad you kept your hand.

[ - ] BushChuck 3 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 18:06:41 ago (+3/-0)

Fuck. I almost gooned my hand last year doing the same thing. Now I use my backhoe to hook the bitch up.

You might consider giving Kratom a try. I use a Kratom tea a couple times a week to deal with a knee injury. You don't want to use it daily, though, as it does have addictive properties.

[ - ] Rowdybme 1 point 1 yearApr 11, 2023 20:28:20 ago (+1/-0)

Kratom is an opiate. It's not much different that vicodin. I have a friend hooked on it. I was addicted to opiates as well for a long time. I wouldn't do it bro.

[ - ] BushChuck 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 21:05:20 ago (+2/-0)*

Kratom is not an opiate. It's a member of the coffee family.

It is also not at all addictive, if you prepare it properly, and don't use daily.

[ - ] Rowdybme 0 points 1 yearApr 12, 2023 12:58:11 ago (+0/-0)

Well a simple search says you're wrong. Mitragynine, the major alkaloid identified from Kratom, has been reported as a partial opioid agonist producing similar effects to morphine. Opioid would have been correct. It's definitely mentally addictive. It's debated whether it is physically addictive like a proper opioid.

[ - ] Love240 0 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 20:40:21 ago (+1/-1)

Stick with Cannabis or just CBD if you want to make sure your head stays clear. Very high concentrate CBD is great for pain relief. (600-1000mg CBD)

[ - ] BushChuck 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 21:11:23 ago (+2/-0)

Kratom is a game changer for me. I can work all day with no knee pain. Just don't use it daily, and don't take huge doses. I make a tea from 5gr of red. Very little head feel, and great inflammation/pain management.

I've never really felt much benefit from CBD.

[ - ] I_am_baal 2 points 1 yearApr 12, 2023 02:05:42 ago (+2/-0)

I second this. Kratom really helps with my lyme pain and makes me much more functional than I would otherwise be. Red Bali, Red MD, and Gold Bali are my go-to strains.

[ - ] Rowdybme 0 points 1 yearApr 12, 2023 13:01:57 ago (+0/-0)

The red is more of an upper and the blue is more of a downer and closer to a real opioid.

[ - ] texasblood -1 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 19:07:02 ago (+3/-4)

That shit will make you an idiot faster than pot.
Its another jew thing that has the real data suppressed to drive sales to crutch seekers.
A month out from 8 months of use has my head clear again.
#jewdiction for control

[ - ] BushChuck 4 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 20:58:27 ago (+4/-0)

Cool story, virtue signaler.

You did see the part where I make tea, and only use it a couple times a week?

Without some form of pain control, I need a literal crutch.

[ - ] prototype 3 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 22:57:33 ago (+3/-0)

Without some form of pain control, I need a literal crutch.

texasblood is texasvet, you should ignore that larping faggot.

Had a co-worker who was a heroin junkie. Told him to man up, kick the junk, and explained to him that he could get some kratom from just about any god damn gas station. He did.

A year later hes stone cold sober, and married.

Of course, if I knew the bitch he was gonna marry, I would have told him to forget about getting sober. But he seemed happy enough.

I feel you bro! I'm 46 and I have debilitating sciatica. Hardly able to sit down and then stand up again without being in total agony. And I'm way healthier than most of my peers

[ - ] Anus_Expander 4 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 18:03:16 ago (+4/-0)

Electro-acupuncture, 3 treatments, spaced out over 3 weeks. I was the world's biggest sceptic, but it cured my horrible sciatica. 10 years ago, no problems since then.

[ - ] Jerd34 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 16:43:11 ago (+2/-0)

there is a remedy for it. I suffer with the same. it's definitely debilitating when it flares up.

[ - ] bobdole9 3 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 17:26:08 ago (+3/-0)

Any hints or is it a trade secret?

[ - ] Jerd34 4 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 17:27:43 ago (+4/-0)

discipline is the biggest trick, but most difficult. it's food that causes the inflammation. I assume you're fairly skinny and fit. There are some stretches that help mitigate much of the intense pain but to avoid it outright requires a very disciplined diet. I struggle with that as well.

[ - ] ParnellsUprising 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 18:01:47 ago (+2/-0)

I don't know your insurance situation, but I eventually had the nerves burned off from an Orthopedic surgeon / Neurologist. Best fucking thing I ever did.

The first 2 or 3 times they will give you a cortisone injection, which is good, my first one lasted about 2 years, but then it is diminishing returns. The second was about a year, and the last one was like 3 months. Then they finally burned the fucker out with RFA.

TBH, I started using an inversion table after the radio-frequency ablation, and I have not had a problem since.

If it does start acting up, I just use the inversion table, and I am back to new, so you might want to start with that. You can pick up a decent one for about $200. Well worth the investment.

[ - ] Love240 1 point 1 yearApr 11, 2023 20:46:35 ago (+1/-0)

Using this 2x a day, it took less than a month for my debilitating sciatica to subside. It is life changing, Glory to God.

[ - ] OoklaTheMok [op] 6 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 15:46:27 ago (+6/-0)

No. I can run and program the machine fine, it's the steel I have to lift in and out of it and they won't give me a helper. I work for a mom and pop welding/fabrication shop. About a 150 people work their, maybe. The owner retired and now his incompetent son runs the place now.

[ - ] beece 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 19:53:49 ago (+2/-0)

Take their most profitable customer with you and start your own business. You'll have helpers anyway...

[ - ] Love240 3 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 20:50:14 ago (+3/-0)

Those kinds of shop have an opening overhead cost that is far outside of the range of most people's financial capabilities. The singular 5-axis machine he works with is probably worth over $35K.

EDIT: over $130K, good gravy.

[ - ] Cantaloupe 1 point 1 yearApr 11, 2023 16:33:47 ago (+1/-0)

It's seems there's lots of ways to lift steel.

Ramps etc.

Why lift it, can't they put the machine on the floor?

[ - ] OoklaTheMok [op] 1 point 1 yearApr 11, 2023 22:34:37 ago (+1/-0)

I wrote a comment explaining what I do and how I do it in the thread. I can sometimes use a towmotor if it's something too big, but there is a hood over top of the machine, so no crane or hoist.

[ - ] Jerd34 2 points 1 yearApr 11, 2023 15:19:02 ago (+2/-0)

I can't predict to what extent it will help, but red light therapy is awesome for healing injuries. 650 and 850nm light for 10-30 minutes twice per day at 24 watts focused in a small area centered on your injury will likely make a big difference in how it heals. Seriously, this shit will make ligaments, muscles, connective tissue, and nerves heal much, much faster and more completely. It's great for scars too and for cheating on recovery time for regular exercise. It'll really reduce inflammation too.

edit: This is the one I use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TYC8L7J/?coliid=I1QH1O25NBW4GF&colid=3SELYHF87PMF3&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Obviously, it would be best not to order through a kike company. I'm just linking to amazon out of convenience...

edit: I changed 650-850 to 650 and 850, as it's those two specific narrow wavelengths that are important, not the range of wavelengths between them.

Thanks for the heads up. I got a buddy that is also a machinist and he is just a button pusher that travels around the US. He literally is just there to start and stop the machine and handles no material. I talked to him earlier tonight and I just may do that. He's away from his family for months though and really the only drawback, that I can see. I don't know.

Prima Rapido is the type that I run. Here's a video clip with the cutting head on. It also has a welding head that I can use to weld steel together without adding material. It's a pretty cool job because I rarely make the same parts more than once. The table I use is called a bluco table so they send me the steel and blueprint and I make a fixture to make said part.
