But how else will they force everyone into a subscription service?

This is good news for the cracking and piracy market.

yeah saw that yesterday. i'm done with the sony ecosystem

is too expensive (consoles and games) which gives you little in return for your "investmemt"

with my PC i can run almost any game at 1080p 120 hz and i have access to different stores and even emulation. and no i wont pay 70 bucks for a game that's stupid

Once you discover steam sales, console prices make absolutely no sense. Also no monthly fees.

The best part about pc is you can play with other people even on a piece of shit because you can just drop settings.

There are some woke faggots on the moderation team at Steam, but Gaben himself is an oldschool liberal who believes in free speech. Good Old Games is owned by CD Projekt Red, who I probably don't need to say anything about. tl;dr, you are retarded

Steam sales are pretty good, CD key sites can also be good. If you play a LOT of different games though, the console subscriptions are actually pretty good both on Xbox and Playstation. For the price of a game or two at full price, I got a choice of more games than I could actually play in a year.

The best part of the PC for me is being able to pirate and mod games.

There's no point in pirating games on pc imo.

Try before you buy. If you like it you pay for a license for it. If you don't or it doesn't work as advertised (like a fuckload of "AAA" publishers keep shitting now now) then you fuck it off.

Also DRM and launcher free. Sick to fucking death of having to install a shitload of different launcher apps (EA play etc) to run damn games. Also hypothetically what happens when, say, steam decides to shut down taking your games with them?

Legally in Aus you absolutely have the right to a fully functional backup copy of any software you own regardless of where you bought that software. There is nothing in law that says I must obtain that backup where I bought the software, a license for that software is a license for that software, nothing illegal about me downloading something I already own from pirate bay and then getting a NOCD/no launcher exec from another site I won't mention Ive been using for 25 years now, compressing it and backing the whole lot up to an external HDD with my receipt for that software in the archive.

Fun fact for Aussies, most EULAs absolutely contravene Australian consumer law, Windows being the best example. They can talk about software as a service all they like, they have absolutely no legal right to force platform modifying updates on people who are happy with what they're running that breaks other shit.

Eg - you buy a bright red V8 Holden Commodore VF SS Sedan one day, get a notification from Holden stating update arriving tonight, wake up in the morning and find a brand new bright pink three cylinder ford focus hatchback (or worse, a fucken front wheel drive 4 cylinder hatchback Vauxhall Insignia branded as a ZB Holden Commodore.) That's not what you paid top dollar for not what you wanted and not legal, completely changed the functionality and style of your car.

Microsoft literally do that shit daily with windows.

Steam claims they will remove DRM in the event of a shutdown. "Claims"

We'll see how that works with the impending Win7/8/8.1 cutoff. There's no reason why a game running under Win7 shouldn't continue to work under Win7, sans updates and the steam "community" of course. However, you want to bet that games purchased and running on those older OSes will stop working even though there's no reason they should stop working?

You just hit the nail on the head. Companies guarantee all sorts of shit they know no one will hold them to. I call it corporate gaslighting. Software theft is a thing but pirate sites are completely legal for exactly this reason. As long as you've paid for a title and can prove you've paid for it and have not shared it what they claim is completely irrelevant.

I might be wrong, but if it already works on older systems, it should be fine. Would like to think this is stating that the newer games will no longer be tested against the older operating systems and older versions of DirectX.

Could also try running the .exe in a compatibility mode (if you have Winblows).

[ - ] sarkbear 0 points 1.1 yearsApr 6, 2023 17:06:18 ago (+0/-0)

It'sreally unclear.

Some of the games steam offers need the steam client to authenticate themselves. They'll run in offline mode, but the steam client is still required.

If Valve simply turns off connectivity for the older clients but doesn't disable them (i.e. they act like they are in disconnected internet mode) then they should still work. But if you have any games that require some sort of command and control server to run, then you're DOA.

It's not a matter of compatibility, it's all dependent on if Valve leaves the client alone.

Ok, but you know if you have less than 2 hours game time you can get a refund on steam?

And eh microsoft is shit just switch to linux.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 0 points 1.1 yearsApr 7, 2023 02:44:18 ago (+0/-0)

I'm aware, and it underlines my point.

Download it from somewhere else to make sure it works and you like it, THEN pay for a license for it, or if it's shit or doesn't run properly delete it. Unless it's cucked shit then share the shit out of it so the developer gets raped. Then you've got working software and you own it legally

Counter Strike at 10FPS is a great challenge.

don't pay for anything Sony branded, not just because of prices, but because they're full woke.

I fully support this. If consoomers want to pay megacorporations to treat them like shit, I'm fully for it.

In an ideal world there would be no simpletons that desire this kind of treatment, instead wanting to build and create things irl, but I'm not in charge of the world's eugenics policies.
