These kids don't know. They don't know about being stranded, having to walk 3-4 miles hoping to find a pay phone just so you can call someone to come get you.

The cool thing was that generally someone would stop for you. If they didn't have the tools to fix it, they'd at least give you a lift somewhere.

I personally won't stop for anyone anymore, we've grown too selfish, disrespectful and violent as a society for me to waste my time or life helping someone out. It's sad that it's come to this and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in my opinion.

That makes sense, that there wasn't a fuel gauge in the VW until 1962. This is how it looked from 1962 to 1967.

Before that, when you ran out of gas, there was a reserve tank, and to enable it, one would turn the valve located in the footwell of the front seats 90 degrees.
