When I first started dating at around 12-13, back in 1997, we didn't have mobiles and hardly anyone had internet yet. We had to find out if a girl was interested in us by asking her friends. If her friends said yes, we got her number and called her house. Was the most stressful event of my teens, because I just started speaking to girls and was pretty bad at it. On top of that you were praying that their Mum or Dad didn't pick up. I would literally pace back and forth for hours trying to work up the courage to dial the number. Started using IRC around 14 and it was a revelation. Could chat with them a bit first on the net before you called them. So much easier.

Kids today will never experience the absolute fear and anxiety of the teenage dating cold call. I got heaps of pussy in Highschool and have never had a problem speaking to girls. I think that might be the reason why.
