four vulnerabilities allow an attacker to remotely compromise a phone at the baseband level with no user interaction, and require only that the attacker know the victim’s phone number.


the exploit is based on wifi calling using a specific chipset in some Android phones.

I interpreted it as the attacker would have full access to everything on the phone.

I guess if the modem has DMA access to all of memory you can treat it like a debugger and control the main CPU's OS that way. AFAIK the modem runs a different firmware. Taking over that software wouldn't be immediately the same thing as controlling the OS, though it does seem like a convenient backdoor.
