I think they should chant while doing the killings. Those midgets from Snow White whistled while they mined and it worked well. I imagine chanting during killing would work just as well, so long as the job doesn't involve using precise motions. Firing cannons, carpet bombing, and placing satchel charges doesn't require fine motor precision, so chant away.

I think its silly to expect rational behavior from humans. Our brain developed a bunch of short cuts and hacks to ensure survival. Its efficient and “good enough” given its limited real estate. It has a top of legacy hardware from when we were lizards and amphibians. Your higher “logic” functions are built on top of that. Nobody behaves logically. We dont have enough brain power to weigh all the pros and cons of all the information available. We view a reality full of shades of gray as black and white. Why? Because its an efficient algorithm which works well enough most of the time. We might as well accept that we are animals and chant when we need to.
