You may be correct. I recall reading it but I just went on a dive and can't find it. If I do, I wwill post it. The courts ruled it must be imminent and my recollection was that a court said that beyond a year was not imminent.

AFAIK simply logging in with a good VPN and not using your real information would be good enough for the local police.

The NSA may have enough information to reconstruct who it was. I don't really know what they have, but say the FBI could get that intelligence.

But local cops I'm actually surprised they caught anyone. All they'd have to do is email 4chan and ask, but still.

Hmm, I dunno what you need to post to 4chan. A VPN only hides your IP. The FBI could still get any other information sent to 4chan's servers (I'm sure 4chan has an employee who services lots of these).

I was just wondering because supposedly NordVPN would not give your name to the cops, and they don't keep records of what you were doing anyways.

You do not understand. What is the purpose of a threat? What are the consequences? A threat is usually one of two things, a false statement meant to intimidate and frighten someone or a statement of intent just before acting. Telegraphing your intent allows for preparation by your opponent. Why would you want that? Trying to intimidate an opponent without acting can give them not only preparation but legal grounds to take actual action against you. Threats are generally only damaging to to the threat maker and not the person(s) being threatened. If you're going to do something, just do it. If you're not, don't make your life difficult. If you do wind up doing something and there is record of you making threats, expect it to be used against you.

So, I ask you, why would it ever be a good idea to make a threat?
