I just dual boot and use windows like it's an X-box. If I want to play a game, I boot into windows, otherwise I boot into linux. I don't view windows as anything other than a game platform now, and keep it only for gaming with old friends occasionally.

I wish it were like that for me. I started too early.

As a hipster, I have hated Gates far too early to be cool.

That's okay, I think you're cool. I just wish you'd told me how much better Linux was than windows long ago! But you're still cool.

I learned long ago that linux proselytizing just annoys the non initiates. But it's cool. Innit?

I also really liked freebsd before the SJWs fagged it all out. I had nearly a decade of uptime with a version of it on a personal server, mostly just because.

It would have lasted longer with proper updates, probably...

Shut up and eat your fuckin avocado toast faggot.

I still remember that fucking getting assreamed for antitrust before the majority of the kids on the internets daddies were old enough to squirt one out.

If you have issues with games in 2023, it's ALMOST always anti-cheat related. Even day 1 games like Hogwarts and Cyberpunk worked on the day of release

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 1 point 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 20:33:57 ago (+1/-0)

If a game doesn't have anti-cheat, half the time I can debug it with DnSpy and fix it myself. I don't know how related to the original source the code is it shows you, but for disassembly it's quite readable. variable names and everything.

[ - ] froggy 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 21:14:27 ago (+0/-0)

Too much work and knowledge for the average Windows user. But yes, even the broken games can be fixed short of easy anti cheat bullshit

They used to say high level languages were never fast enough for video games, but I noticed a lot of them are programmed in C# or at least .NET something. Of course those games generally run like crap, but that might not be C#'s fault.

Gotta have my imaginary game rewards. ding ding ding ding give the dogs their cookies and erase all real goals.

Ever been to a brick and mortar game store lately for pc games?

Yeah all you get is a box with a steam key now.

Most times the box doesn't even tell you it's a steam game upfront.

Fuck sometimes the key doesn't even work and Valve try and explain it away as the legitimate brick and mortar store selling fake games and refuse to honour the purchase ... which is patently false and more corporate gaslighting

Gets on my tits but ultimately not an issue as the only reason I'm paying for a title is because I've already downloaded it from a torrent site and enjoy it.

Eh, you know those sites that sell steam keys really, suspiciously cheap? Yeah, sometimes they're stolen, sometimes they're guessed at by some hacker, sometimes a disgruntled employee will steal them from the boxes.

Yeah JB Hi-fi isn't buying from random websites. If I've got a receipt from a retailer valve, as a service that wants to operate in Australia has a legal obligation under Australian law to honour the purchase then go back and work out what the fuck happened with the retailer. It's never the obligation for the buyer.

JB as a national brand rightfully works under the assumption that the product they're buying is legit. Could take it up with them but all they can do is go to their wholesaler who goes back to Valve. I have the right to deal with it directly.

Besides the point anyway, I was shitting on the "duh.... Gots to habs much cheevements" comment.

On top of that .. IVE ALREADY GOT THE PRODUCT ANYWAY AND CAN PROVE IVE PAID FOR IT. I don't actually need the key 9 times out of 10 consumer law again states I have a right to a fully functional product and the same website Ive been getting fixed drm free executables I've been using for 25 years is still going, but it is a part of what I'm purchasing and they have an obligation to supply it.

I dunno about brick and mortar, but as far as physical items it's all about the accessories now. You don't get a manual, but a lot of times you can get a helmet, or a figurine.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 14, 2023 00:36:15 ago (+0/-0)

Tends not to happen here. The publishers almost always severely limit the extras to US purchasers. I was dumb enough to pre order Cyberpunk, part of the deal with that was that it was supposed to arrange be ready for day 1, plus extras. It didn't arrive for day one and didn't show up as out for delivery until a week after, then showed delivered, and then returning to depot. I cancelled that shit and got my money back. First and last time I pre purchase any software no matter how much I think it will be worth it.

The top tier pre purchase was sold out before it opened for purchase in Australia.

They should let you pay for shipping at least.

[ - ] Thyhorrorcosmic103 2 points 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 05:38:14 ago (+2/-0)

thousands die

Wait are we talking about Linux or fauci?

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 20:32:18 ago (+0/-0)

He's lying. Nobody's computer has ever done anything useful the first time booting it after installing Linux.

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 14, 2023 03:10:15 ago (+0/-0)

I think that's the joke mate.

You might be able to use proton to make them work on Linux

[ - ] ArnoBreker 1 point 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 09:17:49 ago (+1/-0)

While Proton has made some progress, a lot of games still don't work and never will. I don't really play games that often, and I have worked in IT for 20 years and I only use linux for servers. I would never use it for desktop. Linux is a constant battle of stability, package dependency Hell and random weird bugs. LinuxBros always chime in and say I must be doing something wrong. No, they just ignore reality and pretend that Linux works perfectly every time. It doesn't. I've tried Linux desktop at least a dozen times, if not more, with various Window managers. I always run into some infuriating bug or stability issue that just isn't present on Windows. Windows is a lot more stable and easy to manage than they claim. I've been using Linux for servers since the early 2000's and automate them all the time.

I completely de-Microsoft my Windows, and it's great. Never have an issue. Most Linux software is trash too.

[ - ] jigganiggaboo 1 point 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 21:34:02 ago (+1/-0)

What did you do to "de-Microsoft" your operating system are you using customized registry files?

[ - ] jigganiggaboo 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 17, 2023 04:07:10 ago (+0/-0)

Ill probably experiment with it on VM thanks

[ - ] albatrosv15 [op] 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 13, 2023 16:33:19 ago (+0/-0)

Windows 11 is more stable?

[ - ] i_scream_trucks 1 point 1.2 yearsMar 14, 2023 03:09:49 ago (+1/-0)

Doubtful.

[ - ] ArnoBreker 0 points 1.2 yearsMar 16, 2023 20:49:03 ago (+0/-0)

Either one is fine
