Words matter. They change how you think. Which changes how you see the world.
Never let your enemies put their words in your head or on your tongue.
Comes in pokey thing that goes in arm? Must be vaxscene! Me smart. Baahhhaahh.
Trying to explain to them that a disease is a collection of symptoms, not a pathogen family, and that people have been calling this particular collection of symptoms "Influenza" for over 500 years, long before anyone knew what a virus is, let alone could tell one strain from another, is... an adventure through the plains of futility and into the valley of despair.
That was what a disease was before we had germ theory. The cold and influenza are different and we can compare the pathogens to prove it. Common hospital tests check for influenza A and B as those are easy to distinguish. We're even finding that some mental diseases can be cause by gut flora.
We do have advanced medical technology, but it's utilized by glorified troubleshooting techs and psychopaths.
Futility and despair. Sigh. Into the breach once more.
Developing better microscopes doesn't change the nature of reality. Just allows you to see it better. Still need to use your brain to interpret correctly.
A disease is still a disease, not a pathogen. The Cold is a disease that can be caused by many different virus families. Pneumonia is a disease that can be caused by viruses or bacteria. Diabetes is a disease that can be caused by all sorts of circumstances, including by some pathogens. So why do you insist that Influenza is extrasuperduperspecial and can only be caused by this one single family of viruses? Why do you insist that when a different pathogen causes the exact same set of symptoms - which is synonymous with "the same disease" - it must still be a different disease?
I'll tell you why: Because a few decades ago a couple of pompous fools in lab coats analyzed a handful of samples from some Influenza victims. And, in their hubris, they decided to hastily slap the label "influenzavirus" on what they found. To get that clout of being the ones who "finally discovered the cause of Influenza". And now you, like so many others, are a slave to that label.
But it is just a label. One that never should have been assigned with such a small sample size.
Slapping a label on a pathogen doesn't retroactively alter the past, to ensure all cases of the disease that you stole the label from were caused by that pathogen. Nor does it proactively alter the future, to ensure all future cases of that disease can only ever be caused by that one pathogen and no other.
What it does do, apparently, is program the brains of NPCs to be incapable of comprehending the difference between the disease, the pathogen, and the label that was incorrectly assigned to both.
The symptoms are manifestations of the disease and the pathogen is the cause. Turns out a lot of similar diseases manifest slightly differently because they're different pathogens. This extra granularity is helpful. Without knowing the cause of the disease, treatment errors are more likely.
The symptoms are the disease. Literally: dis-ease.
Knowing the pathogen might be helpful for treatment. But only if you have a cure that works on one and not the other. Or different cures for each. We have no cure for either "influenzavirus" or coronavirus. We have no vaccine that actually works for either, either, though that doesn't stop the salesmen from peddling their snake oil for both. These viruses mutate and adapt too quickly. They always have. Best we can do is boost the natural immune system and try to mitigate the worst symptoms so they don't kill the patient. And the same protocols for that work for both, and need to be adapted for each wave any way.
Unless we find a cure, which only works for one but not the other, the mostly arbitrary taxonomical label this season's dominant virus happens to fall under will remain an academic and largely irrelevant distinction.
There is no practical benefit or significance to calling this disease anything other than the flu.
Unless you're trying to terrify people into accepting draconian invasions into their freedom and privacy and force them to pay for the privilege of injecting your snake oil. After all, nobody would put up with any of that if it was "just the flu". Which it is. And some of the waves would have been more accurately described as the common cold.

A lot of liberties permanently lost.
And they learnt a great deal about humanity.
And they poisoned billions
Killed millions.
And should one virus weapon exist, so do more.
I think they got blindsided by hcq and ivermectin though
