Ages ago I saw a chef interviewed that said "English cuisine is the best meats, freshest vegetables available boiled or roasted until all the flavor is destroyed"

Outside of the US, "flavor", "spicy", "garlic", etc. are all considered pejorative words.

How to ruin the recipe for scones and reintroduce it back to the people who invented scones.

It's authentic American food, take it or leave it.

Not watching all of that but from the beginning bit I gather a biscuit is just a sweet scone. So what is the gravy you put on them? Gravy here is something made of animal fat and stock - does gravy mean something different in North America, because a scone drenched in gravy sounds vile?

[ - ] Ozark 1 point 2.2 yearsMar 8, 2023 08:56:43 ago (+1/-0)

Biscuits aren't supposed to be sweet. Biscuits are made of flour, water, grease, salt and baking soda.
The gravy in this vid is made of a light-blond rue with milk and breakfast sausage added.

Shit onna shingle

[ - ] Irelandlost -2 points 2.2 yearsMar 8, 2023 09:11:18 ago (+0/-2)

Ok that sounds pretty vile. We eat scones with cream (or sometimes butter) and jam. They’re a snack you have with a cup of tea, not something to have with sausage or the like as a meal.

I've had biscuits and scones and they may share some textural similarities but the taste is very different and trust me, biscuits and gravy is amazing. It'd be similar to something farmers up in the Dales would eat if that gives you an idea of the flavors. You eat it for breakfast. The sausage is different from what you're thinking. It's almost like ground beef in consistency and isn't wrapped in a skin. Gosh, this is harder than I thought to describe. Just come visit America and ask anyone west of Pennsylvania and east of California to make it for you.

Ha I’ll take your word for it! Taste is near impossible to describe without comparisons to other tastes too, so thanks for the effort. If ever I’m over there again I’ll try it. Have to try grits (fried corn I think?) too.

Good day, chap! Ok, so you start with some buttery biscuits, ok then, righty-o. Next you take some breakfast sausage, fry in a pan, making sure not to drain pan once sausage is cooked (the sausage should be ground and never linked). Then you add some flour, not a whole lot, about 1/4 cup (look it up, I aint converting to metric) and let it cook with the sausage and fat for a few mins, next add about 2 cups milk, let it cook off till it is the proper consistancy, stirring constantly. Salt and pepper to taste, apply to the top of your buttery fresh baked biscuit and enjoy. Give it a shot, i am sure you can find a biscuit recipe for american biscuits online. If my wife doesnt make biscuits, I source the ones from the supermarket. The sausage tends to have a pepper-y sort of spice profile to it as well. I assume typical sausage that brits consume is made of nigger dick and likely has a different flavor than a good pork breakfast sausage. Also, the sausage you chose will determine the quality, and flavor of your gravy.

They aren't sweet. The gravy is just normal gravy, though it often has sausage or bacon in it, usually a white gravy. Think s.o.s. but on much thicker, fluffier bread.

[ - ] anrach 0 points 2.2 yearsMar 8, 2023 16:49:49 ago (+0/-0)

You're missing out. American biscuits are salty and buttery, and that particular form of gravy is called 'Country Gravy' which is actually a bechamel with rendered fatty meat scraps (or nowadays, bits of bacon and sausage). Not something I'd suggest eating regularly, but it's a wonderful savoury treat.

No I am not going to watch 8 minutes of this shit.

Hey man everyone always knocks Americans for having stole our culture and having no original food; here's a video of foreigners finally understanding the wonder of American cuisine.

[ - ] totes_magotes [op] 0 points 2.2 yearsMar 8, 2023 17:39:56 ago (+0/-0)

Then don't. No one fucking cares whether you watch it or not, least of all you whining about it.

Everybody loves fried chicken, but good lord is that kid living up to the stereotype.

Now they know what food tastes like, maybe they'll understand why half of Americans are scootypuffs.

All the mud-things was far too distracting.

I hate having to constantly look and listen around those fucking sub-creatures.
