I think Ted was right about society and wrong about technology. There's nothing wrong w tech. There is something wrong w people. Technology is just tools. Hammers and screwdrivers and guns and particle accelerators and nuklear energy battery things. People just don't understand technology and they scared.

People are scary animals and only some can be trusted w the magic of the elders.

This is some backwards thinking.
There is nothing wrong with people, we are who and what we are.
The inherent nature of humanity is not good.
The inherent nature of man is emotive self-interest.
As an animal, mankind is largely irrational with inferior rational tendencies.
That is fact and does not imply a need to level some arbitrary value judgement.

The problem is indeed with technology.
If we have created a tool that is inherently beyond our ability to control, it is also not about leveling judgement, it is again simply fact.
Mechanistically, our reach exceeds our grasp.
And that IS a problem.
The solution must be selective prohibition.
Not moralizing about how we need to be better.
Not attempting to restrict technology to the deserving, because the deserving will always be defined by the ruling structure rather than objective merit.

We are not better.
We are simply what we are.
Either we foster societies predicated on a stronger understanding of who we actually are, and what we all require as racial subsets of a larger species or we will inevitably destroy ourselves with our chronic lack of forethought or inhibition.
Of course, in order to do that, we need to stop pretending we're an enlightened and divine group.
