Back when this spoof appeared, my dad cut the spoof ad out of my National Lampoon. He then posted the spoof where he worked in Massachusetts. He was glad he never told anyone he was going to do it. Because, in his words, “a lynch mob of Kennedy loyalists were trying to find out who posted it.”

Two years before Kennedy drown his girl, my uncle was in the same situation. At 19, he stupidly let his girlfriend drive his GTO while he rode shot gun. She lost control and went over the side of one of these old rickety Texas country bridges. She died. He kept trying to find her in the dark water and couldn’t. When other motorists came along, they had to restrain him from trying because he was going into shock. My fathers family had a good standing in the town, as did the deceased. No one really gave him shit for what happened.

Two years later, Kennedy drown his girl, but left her there and tried to slink away. Somehow the rage of the towns population over what Kennedy did slopped over onto my uncle, because the situations were similar. He joined the army and went to Vietnam to get out of town. Fucking Kennedy…

I remember that.

First hand experience- VW bugs do float but not well.
