Need to get some relays for turning on fan and heater. Still may buy one already built, but just wanted to prove to myself I could do it homebrew style.

I have a bunch of that stuff in a box around here somewhere. After uni I kinda just, never found a use for it. Making an egg incubator would be an actually useful idea for it.

You should do it, even if you don't actually use it. Keep the brain cells active! It's really not that hard, as the LCD and DHT libraries are already available. Took just 20 or so lines of code. The LCD library calls out D0,D1, D2, D3, but it actually should be D4 thru D7.

Deleted, or does chrome hate that site?

Brave hates the "missing file" as well.

I love those white-on-blue LCDs, stocked up on several recently. They're very readable. There's a convenient i2c module that solders right on and reduces the number of pins needed greatly.

I2C would be nice. I need to work on dimming the backlight a bit, so it doesn't burn my retinas every time I look at it 😊

Grab a PCF8574, for i2c conversion. https://protosupplies.com/product/lcd-i2c-interface-adapter/ or https://www.amazon.com/CANADUINO-Interface-Dot-Matrix-Character-Displays/dp/B07B2KPSY9

It'll convert the parallel to i2c. Can change the contract of the LCD too. It has a backlight switch, you might be able to adjust the contrast with some fiddling.

You should check out the mycodo project. I would think that captures any environmental values that you would want to control.

That looks really cool. I could use that at work, if we didn't require calibrated, traceable environmental monitoring equipment.
