So I see billboards in FL saying like "Jesus saves!" or "X county loves Jesus!"

I wonder if you bought a billboard and said "Jews murdered Jesus." if you'd be convicted of a hate crime. I'm 100% certain you'd be charged, but literally all historical records show that to be a factual statement. It might become like "It's Okay to Be White" where the ADL labels it a hate phrase or whatever. Suddenly it's not okay to be white, and it's not okay to talk about who killed Jesus. Passing out fliers isn't illegal. The Florida law, allegedly, would not apply to passing out fliers. It would apply to putting fliers out and weighing them down with plastic bags of rice, which is, I think, littering.

I would like to see someone ask the politician who was describing the law "so what would be a legal method for someone to distribute critical even obnoxious and foul literature door to door and or to hold signs in high visibility areas like a bridge over a highway?"

Well since the only way they can determine whether or not a hate crime is intended is by analyzing the speech then it is by definition penalizing the free speech and not an action.

Definitely making me think twice about DeSantis although I understand he has to placate that huge Jewish constituency in the Miami area.

What really needs to happen is as soon as this is passed it needs to be challenged in court but quickly. I mean if this passes then they can say that all kinds of free speech is actually a hate crime.

Now if you can't hang a banner from a bridge what happens if two people stretch a large banner from two different poles while they happen to be walking across the bridge so that the banner can be seen by people driving under the bridge. That's two people holding one big sign. Are they going to say it's a crime to hold a big sign now?

I think you have to get a permit to get a billboard, like physically erect a billboard. A permit is by definition, permission by the government to do something that would otherwise illegal. The message on a billboard is protected free speech because billboards are legal by permit.
