The writer writes in an unnecessarily complicated and showy way in my opinion, as if to dazzle with high-speed words instead of simply making a point.

Apparently Russia is determined not to give up the Crimea and other seized Ukrainian territory and Ukraine is detemined not to cede that territory = when two immovable forces collide...

The answer is the first world civil war. Across all developed western countries, the people go to war against their governments. The people of all the countries are allied in their causes and so are the governments in their fights against their people.
