Microsoft will decide whether or not a file needs to be renamed and if it does then they will issue it in an update. Welcome to your future, comrade.

At the risk of sounding like a faggot just switch to Linux. Even for games it's hard to beat these days.

Their metrics likely said majority of users never right click to rename a file so they dropped support for the feature.

F2 still works.

Renaming files isn't a thing non power users do often, if at all. This is the basic misunderstanding many enthusiasts miss. Power users are a minority. MS has recognized this, and is designing for the bulk of users now.

so i'm a power user? nice. by renaming files sometimes, i have been placed in the top echelon of computer users.

[ - ] anon 1648434 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 08:08:33 ago (+0/-0)

Yes. Really. Do you have any idea how many times I have had to show people this functionality over 30 years? Most people don't even care anymore, as "the files are stored in the app" to them.

Most "users" make a second file with the new name and delete the original. Most users don't even right click. 30 Years in IT. Renaming a file is akin to changing your own oil, hardly anyone does it.

[ - ] anon 1007306 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 27, 2023 20:50:32 ago (+1/-0)

Click the file name to highlight then click it again and it changes to a text box. Not that I'm on 11.

[ - ] anon 4515740 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 03:07:25 ago (+1/-0)

Renaming a file is enthusiasm. Fuck this world.

[ - ] anon 1277184 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 02:51:45 ago (+0/-0)

Im not a power user. I rename files plenty. Its designed for members of Idiocracy.
It is about hindering or removing control and has always been about that.

[ - ] anon 4021948 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 05:32:14 ago (+0/-0)

Fuck, I rename so much sometimes I use tools that turn the whole directory contents into a text file to quickly edit, then commit changes.

[ - ] anon 4229931 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 02:26:05 ago (+1/-0)

Or just hit F2

One of the things I love about Microsoft(tm) is how trustworthy they are. Just look at Bill Gates face and what is the first thing you think? Pedophilic vaccine murdering psychopath?

Trustworthy!

In fact when I went to google.com/chrome to download Chrome, Microsoft Edge inserted HTML and proudly stated:

"Microsoft Edge runs on the same technology as Chrome, with the added trust of Microsoft"

Inserting HTML on-the-fly into HTTPS pages is why I trust Microsoft(tm)!

Anyone who is over 30 and doesn't use linux by now should kys. There is no point telling them to use linux.

[ - ] anon 1568889 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 11:24:34 ago (+0/-0)

The thing that pisses me off the most is that no you no longer right click on things on the taskbar to close them. Instead you just have the close all option that closes ever similar window. It makes me rage.

[ - ] anon 3663218 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 07:04:12 ago (+0/-0)

If you are in IT, tell everybody WIN 11 is banned and tell them to use Linux/Mac/Browser OS instead. You will be doing hunanity and your company a favor.

Ffs. Linux. Y'all are such faggots

[ - ] anon 1568889 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 11:26:10 ago (+0/-0)

I've used Linux off and on since 2002. It's always been shit and still is. Just in it's own way. At least I don't have to jump through hoops to play any game I want to on Windows.

[ - ] anon 4515740 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 03:09:59 ago (+0/-0)

I still use offline windows 7 just for gaming.

[ - ] anon 7484659 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 28, 2023 11:34:05 ago (+0/-0)

Still enjoying DX10 huh? A lot of new games won’t install without DX12.

I must admit, i really miss out by not playing bus simulator 21.

Win 7 has dx11, btw.

You need to learn how to use search engines.

https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/rename-shortcut.html

Easiest way is to click pause click on the name. Rename click on something esle...done

I take this all back. F2 is the easiest. Select file and hit F2. Someone else posted this

Anyone caught using Windows will be thrown into the oven with the Jews.

[ - ] anon 1007306 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 27, 2023 20:49:54 ago (+0/-0)

10 was ok.

[ - ] anon 2490533 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 27, 2023 21:10:55 ago (+1/-0)

Windows 10 was okay in the same sense CoViD 19 was just a cold.

Wait, CoViD was just a cold. Bad example.

Win10 blew dead goat dicks. I have a ASUS laptop that I fucking love. It's small but still powerful enough and it's robust. But the thing has an Atom CPU and Linux is not well supported. After getting boned up the ass one too many times by Win10 while I was on the road I put that laptop on the shelf and I now use a larger and heavier laptop running Linux for when I travel. I miss the ASUS every time I hit the road but I will never use it again because of Win10.

If I'm lucky I'll go to my grave without ever having to touch Win11. But I'm going to assume that whatever large pile of steaming shit that Win10 was, Win11 is worse.

ASUS Transformer T102HA

Ultimately it wasn't drivers but the kernel that was the problem.

Sadly the battery no longer holds a charge, and I can't justify putting a new one in since I only tried to boot it so that I could loan it to a buddy.

I don't know how many laptops ASUS made with the Transformer moniker but I found the T102 perfectly integrated and functional in every way including power management. Even Win10 was mostly forgivable... until, like for you, MS decided it needed an update at a very wrong moment.

Yep every other version or so is kind of ok. Windows 7 was ok. Windows 8 no one used. Windows 10 ok. Windows 11 sux.

Windows has always had a history of every third operating system being a complete disaster, which ended up being subsumed into the next operating system.

Microsoft Nabobs exist in a perpetual state of bewilderment, owing to poor hippy diet.

[ - ] anon 1007306 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 27, 2023 20:51:29 ago (+3/-0)

8.1 was that bad a gaming laptop I bought with it pre loaded sat in a cupboard unused for months.

Whoever came up with that charms shit needs a donkey punching.
