Related advice: do not enter a lake, swimming pool or hot tub while wearing contact lenses. I know a young lady who did that and an amoeba got under the lens and burrowed into her cornea. She was very lucky to be referred to an ophthalmologist who had seen this condition and knew how to treat it. After two long years of intense treatment and a cornea transplant, she still has her sight.
You shouldn't be using freshwater for that at all. Only sterile saline solution. Pressurized nasal sprays are made for this purpose and they are cheap. Phlegm is salty for a reason. Washing it out with freshwater is harmful.

like a neti pot or nevage nasal cleaner. You need to use boiled or distilled water, never use tap.
