Hi-Res 2D Printer without the spyware?

Looking basically for something that doesn't require reliance on the printer ink /toner monopoly, planned obsolescence, and built-in spyware.

Tons of reading material on making your own 3D printers, but aside from just a rudimentary plotter with a CNC machine, is there anything out there that would basically be an open source 2D printer? Especially one that could run off of cheap ink / toner, etc.?

I would've thought someone would've simply removed the electronics from their printer. Then replace it with an Arduino and their own printing software.

I block my printer from WAN access using my router's firewall.

I need a new printer as well. Bough a HP laser printer at best buy, used for about a week. Then it stoped printing and only printed a test print with the message i need to connect the printer to the internet if i want to keep printing. Total bullshit. Returned the thing for a full refund. Now i am still printer-less, and don't know what to buy.

Open source, no.

They have inkjets that you can refill with any ink now. As in pouring liquid instead of buying whole new cartridges with only 0.5 picoliters of ink in them.

Then, you can buy an old laser printer that takes aftermarket toner.

I don't know how to make your own.

There used to be a list of printers without microdots if that's what you mean by no spyware. You'd have to get an older model.
