Home electric vehicle chargers are supposed to have a way of talking to the grid (they're even wi-fi/5G enabled), so I'm sure the technology has already been deployed for other devices.
How else are they supposed to implement social credit rationing when they forcibly switch everything over to electric?

Due to the technology adoption lifecycle, you can be assured that any technology that can make it to the early adopters phase is eventually going to find itself mainstreamed.
The one upside is that Apple is so selfish with their patents that they might fuck up mass implementation.
