The top shelf is the warmest, and best for ready-to-eat foods such as cheese. Middle shelves are colder and good for eggs, milk and leftovers. The bottom shelf is the coldest, ideal for storing raw meat, poultry and fish.
Fruit and vegetables are good in the drawers at the bottom – but they should be kept apart as fruit produces a gas called ethylene, which causes vegetables to go off more quickly.
