Another thing is that people change their behavior. Germany was a very peaceful place 10-20 years ago. Even big cities. A girl could get drunk at night and walk back home alone across the city without any issues whatsoever. You could hitchhike, approach strangers for help, etc.

Now everything has changed, especially since 2015.
