My dish washer is 45 years old. She'll be turning 46 in another month.

WHy do you need a "hot water heater"? If it is hot already, why do you need a heater?

Ok.. so there is water and it's wet but does it stay wet after processing in this "hot water heater"? If the water turns to steam the remaining water is dry is it not? What if the water is already hot?

Water cooler?
You mean a "cold water cooler"?

This conversation is retarded.

[ - ] Sheitstrom 1 point 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 10:02:54 ago (+1/-0)

So it goes through a "cold water cooler" afterwards like an air conditioner so I can drink it or use my HE coldwater washing machine? Is that double processing why my clothes don't get clean?

Im not sure if this is a relevant question as it is not directly a "water" related question, but when you mentioned the stained shirt thing, i thought, maybe my missing sock situation was related somehow?

Just to clarify, the water does not come into the house preheated as a courtesy from the utility company.

See, we're missing out. Those Icelanders have the right idea

That's a "water heater". If it is already "hot water", why the fuck would you need to heat it?

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 18:36:47 ago (+1/-0)

You may have stumbled upon a midwesterner. We speak funny.

[ - ] cyclops1771 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 15, 2023 13:55:36 ago (+0/-0)

I always heard "water heater" or "hot water tank", the latter from the old fart farmer types who remember (or still have) water tanks that don't have integrated heating elements.

I have a wonderful well. It has a tiny bit of iron in the water. I have to replace my water heater about every 20 to 25 years. The pressure switch has to be replaced every 8 to 10 years. That tiny bit of iron gives my water a good taste. It's not really a taste as much as it gives it body? Maybe? It's not enough to turn our clothes orange.
We will never move because we would never have a well this good anywhere else.

Change your magnesium rods

[ - ] GeneralDisposition 2 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 09:13:02 ago (+2/-0)

This. They dissolve and have to be replaced. They exist to kill odd smells and tastes. I work in a major city and had a water drip in a pipe that was over a breezeway and couldn't get to it right away. Half a day later it stopped dripping due to the calcium and rust in the water. I filter all my drinking water.

[ - ] GeneralDisarray 3 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 14:49:20 ago (+3/-0)

Wrong!

They are sacrificial anodes. They rot out instead of the steel tank.

Old water heaters had three and lasted forever. The new ones have only one and last ten years.

[ - ] Prairie 1 point 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 20:54:55 ago (+1/-0)

Change them every 10 years, and drain your tank yearly.

Just you wait, when Bill Gates poisons all the aquifers and contaminates the ground water table, you'll be in the same boat.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

As a side note you must be in a low mineral area so you don't have a lot of minerals leaching into your well water. Not much limestone is my guess. Probably hard rock or sand like Florida or some Rocky mountain State?

[ - ] TheNoticing 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 23:21:09 ago (+0/-0)

This is the way.

[ - ] totes_magotes 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 19:49:57 ago (+0/-0)

You don't have a hot water heater. You have a water heater. You don't need something to heat water that is already hot.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 17:42:39 ago (+0/-0)

[ - ] StealthNinjaTaliban 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 15:40:51 ago (+0/-0)

dude no....its gross inside. Trust me. Look for videos of people taking apart old hot water heaters

[ - ] Special_Prosecutor 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 14, 2023 12:44:21 ago (+0/-0)

#1 Add an expansion tank near the heater exit. This greatly reduces internal stresses from the expansion cycles.

#2 Preventative Maintenance sacrificial anode rods, magnesium is best

#3 PM Clean out sediments 6 month cycle
