Last week on conspiracies.win, one of the mods (((organically))) propositioned to ban discussions of Flat Earth and quarantine the topic onto it's own board because "They are time wasters and trolls".

Overlap is no surprise. The cloak of internet anonymity has something to do with ability to deny who they are. It's like waking up from a blackout, and not feeling guilty about what transpired, because it wasn't "you" it was your internet alias. (Would also explain why they aren't available to discuss flat earth in-person - only as arrogant keyboard warriors.) They mask on.
It's a religious conquest for some who believe they literally are Truman in a Truman Show. Seeking out anything that falls in that paradigm, disconnecting from reality. Unable to test a hypothesis and revert back - only zealously pushing on with more and more justifications.
So I don't think it's all nefarious to others, as much as it's nefarious to themselves.
