Turmeric

submitted by Sector7 to Health 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 17:06:34 ago (+32/-1)     (Health)

What is turmeric good for? In India, it was traditionally used for disorders of the skin, upper respiratory tract, joints, and digestive system. Today, turmeric is promoted as a dietary supplement for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, digestive disorders, respiratory infections, inflammation, allergies, liver disease, depression, and many others.

How much turmeric should you take a day?

Generally speaking, a dose of 500 mg to 2,000 mg of turmeric is usually recommended.

-----------------------------------------

A friend is having a Chalazion, which is a clogged oil gland in the eyelid. After searching cures/treatments, turmeric is one of the recommended natural treatments and preventatives for cysts in general. I then checked a cyst near my own eye I've had for years, which had become like the size and hardness of a BB.

Several months ago, I began taking a teaspoon of turmeric (with vit C and other vits/supplements, in water) a couple times per day as a general anti-inflammatory. This is anecdotal, but as I felt around with my finger the cyst has practically disappeared.

https://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-benefits/turmeric-for-cysts

Look for bulk turmeric online in pounds rather than paying 10X for small spice jar in your local store.

.

Not paid by Big Turmeric. But it's true I started out with taking one ginger/turmeric candy. Now I'm on the hard stuff, and buying it in bulk.

Putting on food, if you like that sort of thing. I am someone that sees food as fuel and does not care for spices. Meat, veg, and rice, as any other starch just tastes like straight flour.

Yeah? Well in india they also drink raw water from very polluted rivers to show how safe it is to drink, soo yeah

Sounds like you may be soliciting pics of Indians bathing and brushing their teeth in the river with a crow perched on the head of a nearby floating corpse, while snacking on the eyeballs.

Hopefully none of those people work at the tea plantations that grow my leaves.

For wtf pics, search: chinasmack filthy india

Turmeric is almost useless without pepper mixed in. Ginger is also amazing for you. The best thing for turmeric use is taking fresh turmeric, fresh ginger, unrefined coconut oil, and black pepper and making a "golden paste". Process this all up into goop and put it in the fridge. Take a tablespoon every day.

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 9, 2023 11:47:35 ago (+1/-0)

What ratio? Heaviest on the turmeric? Ginger and pepper seem pretty intense to use equal proportions.

[ - ] ButtToucha9000 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 14, 2023 15:50:32 ago (+1/-0)

Let's see...

8oz unrefined raw coconut oil OR fractionated if you can't get raw

8-12 oz ground turmeric
4 oz ground pepper
4 oz ground cinnamon

Should be good I don't measure I just make it.

Of course, you're supposed to follow that link and do a bit of research for your own situation.

As for taking life advice from internet comments, those are always the best source of advice on what to do!

(dang, I'm so hopped up on turmeric I can't even make an inflammatory comment anymore.)

I add a little to certain foods. It doesn't seem to have too strong a flavor so it's easy to add to pot roasts, asian dishes, pasta sauces, seasoned meats, etc.

[ - ] ToNigIsToNog 2 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 19:42:56 ago (+2/-0)

iirc you need calcium or vitamin e uptake for turmeric uptake to occur, but don't quote, try for yourself.

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 20:20:18 ago (+1/-0)

I put the turmeric in a glass with a scoop of ascorbic acid, then a bit of juice and top it off with water. Vitamin E and the rest come in tablets or capsules I take separately.

[ - ] dontbeaphaggot 2 points 2.2 yearsFeb 9, 2023 03:45:37 ago (+2/-0)

I have no source for claims, but I've heard from some 'asians' that tumeric reduce bloating, and that it reduces breast cancer possibility

[ - ] SteppingRazor 2 points 2.2 yearsFeb 9, 2023 12:14:46 ago (+2/-0)

It’s great for inflammation. I notice a difference in the morning when I take a pill the night before
I get mine from Costco for cheap.

[ - ] lord_nougat 0 points 2.2 yearsFeb 9, 2023 13:35:17 ago (+0/-0)

I get mine from cheapco for cost.

I couldn't stand how faggy costco got during the "pandemic", so I cancelled our membership. It was always unpleasantly crowded with rude asians anyway.

[ - ] Endo_Aryan 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 22:18:44 ago (+3/-0)

This is timely, because recently I bought tumeric chai tea bags and had one before bed. When I woke up in the morning, I noticed I wasn't as achy as usual. Then I wondered how I might do it again, but more. So what do you do, drink it cold with vitamin c powder?

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 23:00:44 ago (+3/-0)

Yes. Usually don't measure, but roughly a teaspoon to a tablespoon in 'muh drinking cup'. Then a 1/4 teaspoon of ascorbic acid. An inch or so of juice for flavor, and top it off with water. Again later in the day as remembered.

Not always daily, but I then add some of up to 10 supplements like Zink citrate, Choline L-Bitartrate, Acetyl L-Carnitine, DL-Phenylalanine, and etc. BulkSupplements.com is your friend here. A bit of research is necessary.

As in another comment, don't rely on internet posts for health advice. I think it was Helena that pointed out turmeric is a blood thinner, to some extent. So if you're already taking a blood thinner, caution would be advised.

But it's good to be less achy. I hope that continues for you.

[ - ] Endo_Aryan 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 9, 2023 09:45:23 ago (+1/-0)

All great advice, thank you. I have been interested in vitamin c powder for taking mega doses and mixing into face lotion so thanks for the link. There's nothing wrong with me aside from dead lifting 30-50 pounds worth of children all day, every day. But I guess we need more preventative maintenance as we approach 40.

I have taken it for years. Prevents gout.

[ - ] PostWallHelena 4 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 20:58:53 ago (+4/-0)

Turmeric is supposed to be a great anti-inflamatory remedy for joint problems and it is probably effective at preventing bowel cancer.

Lots of doctors were recommending turmeric (or curcumin) for covid a year or two ago because it lessens lung inflamation and has some antiviral properties. Ginger is a close relative.

The main active compounds of turmeric are curcuminoids but turmeric may have some other compounds that are beneficial besides these.

Curcuminoids are a subgroup of the polyphenols, which include quercetin, and other flavanoids as well as some other phytochemicals like resveratrol—many of which have been studied for their antiinflamatory properties, anti-microbial properties, anticancer properties, and senolytic effects

You’re supposed to take it with black pepper which helps with absorption.

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 22:08:49 ago (+3/-0)

It's a rare day when I don't grind peppercorns several times. Is there a substance specific to black pepper, or do hot peppers count?

Also, we need to press gang you into service as our medical consultant.

[ - ] dassar 4 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 23:15:12 ago (+4/-0)

Piperine is the bio-active component found in black pepper.

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 2 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 23:35:10 ago (+2/-0)

Thanks!

[ - ] PostWallHelena 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 9, 2023 09:49:52 ago (+1/-0)

As dassar said. It seems to weaken or affect P-glycoproteins which form many semi-permeable barriers in the body like the one in your GI tract and the blood brain barrier as well. Sometimes its added to supplements to increase absorption under the name bio-perine which is some proprietary formulation. But regular old pepper should work fine.

[ - ] Bonlio99 4 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 21:15:24 ago (+4/-0)

Be aware that it is also a blood thinner. So if you are taking it you may have a harder time healing

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 2 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 22:11:20 ago (+2/-0)

Something to consider by the vaxxed, if that means blood clotting is reduced. Am already taking aspirin as a blood thinner, so I should look into that. Thanks.

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 4 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 17:40:12 ago (+4/-0)

I was wondering if a turmeric paste would do that, until I saw the site that claimed it's a skin-lightener. Well, now you can just go with the default emojis.

Tbsp Organic (cold pressed) raw coconut oil
drop of peppermint oil

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 23:42:04 ago (+3/-0)

Mainly use baking soda now. That sounds like a great enhancement.

[ - ] dassar 1 point 2.2 yearsFeb 10, 2023 02:25:27 ago (+1/-0)

anadoctol, but i had the worst toothache on and off for multiple months (umtil i had the entire bottom set removed) and was looking for natural remedys online and came across the toothpaste that a user swore by - probably about 3 / 4 days after using morning noon and night - as well as swilling the same - tooth ache gone - after a couple of weeks completely painfree to were i was able to drink rinse with cold water again.
Now i just use a baking soda paste only bc the staining on my shirt if i missed and the mess on my face and fingers from brushing furiously .... like niccotine stains hehe.

turmeric can be absorbed something like 2000 times more when it is cooked with an oil and pepper (seriously 2000% more, it's in the literature) . I was told to put oil, pepper and turmeric in a fry pan and cook it for a few minutes then add that to whatever. the pepper is what increases it's bioavailability in the body, and i think the oil is used as the carrier. curcumin is fat soluble, i use olive oil or butter.
1/4 tsp. of turmeric
1 pinch of freshly ground pepper
Half a tsp. of olive oil

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/turmeric-and-black-pepper#curcumin-absorption

https://healthandlovepage.com/turmeric-olive-oil-and-black-pepper-cancer-fighting-drink/

pro tip: dont spill it on anything you dont want always stained orange.

ive heard rumors that trump uses turmeric as an enema and facial wash. just kidding

stay healthy boys n girls

[ - ] dassar 4 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 23:19:14 ago (+4/-0)

Yeah, i use it to season my oven wedges/ roast potatoes and chicken all the time.
Looking at either increasing my daily intake or buying a quality curcumin/ tumeric supplement (some i have my eye on are i think 28ooomg high absorbtion/ bio-availability capsules)

[ - ] Sector7 [op] 3 points 2.2 yearsFeb 8, 2023 23:29:09 ago (+3/-0)

There are other substances that enjoy the same effect after hot oil immersion, so that totally makes sense. Thanks for posting that and the links.

As for the TTE (trump turmeric enema), my research uncovered the claim that turmeric is a skin lightener. Perhaps not as powerful as bleaching, but still...

*Note: I will not be testing this claim.

I find it helps with my achey old knee joints. I put about a half teaspoon to an entire teaspoon on my egg every morning and hardly notice it's there; it's just like colorful dirt.

And I wholly agree. These silly supplements selling the stuff for exorbitant prices is dumb and I just buy big huge amounts of it on a pretty unfrequent basis. I go through WAY more black pepper because I love that stuff.
