What water purification system(s) do you recommend for extended emergency use?

submitted by Steelerfish to Survivalist 1.3 yearsFeb 3, 2023 20:20:15 ago (+8/-0)     (Survivalist)

Im looking at products such as the Big Berkey gravity fed system to use for my family if SHTF. I would be using my rain barrel as a source. I have plenty of the life straws and such- I want something that is cost effective theoretically over thousands of gallons…

Any recommendations for an easy system to effectively evaporate/condense/collect saltwater?

That’s the bomb right there! Now you just have to hope they aren’t lying about the islands of ocean garbage!

You can’t go wrong with the big Berky. If using it now and if you are on municipal water make sure to get the fluoride filters too.

You can say that again.

For short-term use you want a ceramic filter that you can backflush to clear it. You might or might not want an activated charcoal filter; with a good ceramic filter, if you're out in the middle of nowhere and the rain tastes okay you may not need one. You can build your own activated charcoal filter, either using aquarium charcoal or it's possible to use regular charcoal. (Do NOT use charcoal briquets or you'll have a bad time. You want natural charcoal.)

For long-term use, look into how to build a slow-sand filter.

If you use chlorine your water will taste funny, don't do it.

I’ve got Berkey, (not the big one,) I like it. This is what’s recommended by the economic ninja https://prooneusa.com he swears by them.

Distilling sea water is about the only reasonable method but it takes a lot of energy, whether it’s burning wood or harnessing the sun. In a pinch you can dig hole several feet from the shoreline, the water that seeps in can be drinkable but not very tasty.

I have the Berkey light which is just the same filters with polycarbonate reservoirs.
Much cheaper than the stainless steel , though I'd rather have the stainless.
Stock up on filters. !!!!
Also, I have 5-6 Berkey sports bottle /w filters

Rain Water doesn't need purification unless you contaminate it.

So store your rain water in an dark sealed container indefinitely.

As for none safe sources. Bleach. Apple cider vinager. Chlorine. Boiling.

Are your options

Rain Water doesn't need purification unless you contaminate it.

The rain here comes with a healthy dose of dust and other air pollutants.

Let me guess. Cdc told you that crap and recommended you drink town supply with its heavy metals and chlorine from a tap they can turn off?

Keep it simple and just distill the water. Purchase a "home distiller" from Amazon and if necessary use a fire in your backyard to boil the water. Purchase or make a rocket stove as well to make this easier / burn less wood.

And if you're worried about the lack of minerals (personally I think this is not an issue) then put a pinch of himalayan salt or squeeze some lemon into the water before drinking it.

Have you test ran the life straws? Maybe it was user error but it made the water taste horrible.

I love berkeys. Love love them.

I'm looking at this reverse osmosis coffee pot looking thing lately and wondering if it's worth it.

Shtf situation it could be plugged into a generator.

Speaking of water , I recently bought one of those ozone generators and read that it could be used to treat water?

Does anyone here have experience with that?

[ - ] Ragnar 0 points 1.3 yearsFeb 4, 2023 00:04:39 ago (+0/-0)

Reverse osmosis is worth it.

Ozone can effect dna, you will end up with even more retarded kids than the ones you already have

[ - ] Gowithit 0 points 1.2 yearsFeb 4, 2023 12:23:20 ago (+0/-0)

I used it while they were gone and it aired out. Or is it from experience? Mom ran it a lot?

But kidding aside like period or just if exposed to it?

I was talking about the countertop r.o. machine but in an emergency idk.

I read research showing some evidence that it effects the dna. I think it’s wise to avoid using it around childbearing age women.

Not that it matters to you, because you are a geriatric and your kids are already retarded 🤪

Oh shit I didnt know that. Thanks for the heads up.

I'd rather they be retarded than a faggot who uses emoji's.
