Surprisingly, it's not jewish in origin.
From the Middle English personal name Estmund (Old English Ēastmund from ēast ‘east’ + mund ‘protection’)
Same definition of this surname from multiple sites, with many notable people on wikipedia having no jewish ancestry.

That being said, I have 0 doubts this is a jew in question.
