Prices are getting ridiculous in the US - even in the Midwest. $5 was the cheapest I could find for a dozen regular eggs at Aldi. Rumors going around here in the US that it has to do with certain chicken feeds that are causing chickens to lay less eggs than normal.
Just wanted to know if it's just a problem in North America.
Sunny side up is really just a toast topping. Proper fried egg is fried over hard in bacon grease. Along with the bacon and a pot of coffee it's the best breakfast. I prefer it to steak, even.
You've been eating (chicken?) eggs with an unpleasant odor? That doesn't sound good. If you can get duck eggs, they're much better than chicken eggs in every way.
As for chicken eggs, skip the cheap commercial eggs and get some eggs from a local non-commercial source. You'll notice the yokes are deep yellow, as opposed to pale yellow from chickens on commercial feed. They're $9 at my farmers market, but often much cheaper in more rural areas.
Then cook most of the grease out of a slice or two of a good bacon. None of that "hormel" shit. Remove the slightly crunchy bacon, and crack your eggs into the hot grease without breaking the yoke. After the white and lower part of the yoke harden, flip and cook for another minute, checking the yoke to make sure it's still liquid on the inside. If you eat toast or bread fried in butter, your eggs are now perfect for dipping the toast into a bit of yoke after you've cut the eggs open with your fork.
Not an endorsement of this particular item, but put a fresh egg in one of these, ~~pull the cord~~, and it scrambles the egg inside the shell. Make golden boiled eggs, or just crack into the skillet already scrambled.

I have had then straight out a chicken's butt, fart smell when cooked. Liquid yoke will make me vomit on sight. That's not cooked. I don't care for toast, or really any "starch" product. It all tastes like raw flour.
$3.00dz for legit free-range cackle fruits here. Blazing orange yolks offering traditional true bold egg flavor. I get them free if I collect my own plus 2dz. Killer deal for 30min labor.
Certain chicken feeds that seem to target home-grown chikens, tens of millions killed over a minor disease that may or may not actually have infected a single chicken, sudden fires in the largest egg factories, large loss of people willing to work for mega-corp's utterly ridiculous wages, times, and bullshit.
Going out on a limb here, I think it's on purpose.

Sunny side up or shit like that, how do you get past the smell and slimy texture? I just cannot.
Also, salmonella.

I live in a rural area. The farmer's market doesn't open up until march.

About $4 (Aussie dollarydoos) something per dozen, for standard cage eggs. About $6 for the "jumbo" eggs.
I don't think that's much different than 2 years ago.
