If there's another axial flip, we might not end up having to worry about all these stupid politics and degeneracy and all that; nature will take care of it all for us!

If all electronics fail, billions of people will be in tears.

Get yourself a flail with your wheel...and good on you for your boat!

Eh, it might mess some stuff up but most things will be fine. Maybe if it's one monster of a magnetostorm it'll knock out micro stuff, but the big stuff will be able to get repaired and running again.

The one thing that might get really fucked is the electrical grid. It's a continent spanning bunch of wires, perfect for catching a moving magnetic field. They've never really made it to handle... Anything really.

THERE'S LITERALLY NO WAY TO KNOW THAT

Great job posting this. Link to the archived version but include a link to the original. That's the way it should be. Thank you.

Hah, that was a great part, even if the movie was dumb.

Oh such a guilty pleasure.

They lightly brush up against the topic of the magnetic field, but fail to mention if the core's rotation correlates to cyclic polar reversals- which we're supposedly due for. Shit will get whack real quick if that starts.

About the article's author:

Jacinta Bowler is a science journalist at Cosmos. They have a undergraduate degree in genetics and journalism from the University of Queensland and have been published in the Best Australian Science Writing 2022.

It prefers the "they" pronoun.

The pic is disturbing. https://archive.md/kR8ci/23a15f26c1b3831f0d5259be84284d37a6aa6fcf.avif

Now I wouldn’t claim to be an expert on any of these funky neo-pronouns, but if “it” (singular) prefers “they” as a pronoun for itself shouldn’t that read “they has an undergraduate degree”?
