Red threads are used by several eastern religions as well. It should be noted that in Kabbalah you wear the string on the LEFT HAND and in the video and pictures in the link Putin has it on his right hand, which is where Hindu's wear it.

It's no one piece of evidence, but several combined. The red string is one clue. The timing of the war suggests he pays attention to astrology. Some of the people around him, like Dugin, sound similar to occultists like Blavatsky when they talk about the development of great cultures. He was a Soviet spook, and we know that Soviet intelligence pursued paranormal research at least as much as the U.S. did, so it would make sense that he or some of the people he works with have experience with it.
