The sun emits UV radiation. With a low UV index and you don't get enough vitamin D from cholesterol, too high a UV index and you get sunburn which leads to melanomas (skin cancers) later in life. There is an entire field of medicine dedicated to dealing with your largest organ, your skin, they are called dermatologists.

Both basal cells (top layer of the skin) is at risk of carcinoma and squamous cell (flat cells in the upper epidermis) are most at risk of cancers from UV.

There are different forms of UV radiation, UVA, UVB, etc. UV penetration is wavelength dependent. UVA penetrates the dermal layer, UVB is mostly absorbed by the epidermis.

UVB does indeed cause skin cancers, not all of them, but most of them. Some skin cancers can be attributed to environmental carcinogens.

But in your fairytale, your loan god is omniscient, omnipresent and only ever kind.

How about moderation? Know that sunbaking in the midday sun is probably not good long term and you can get a days worth of Vitamin D in 20min of sunlight. There is nothing stopping you from enjoying nature and daylight hours all day, but you probably aren't in your birthday suit at the beach seven days a week.
