Something to consider as this airline pilot thing is a hot topic

submitted by MasklessTheGreat to whatever 1.3 yearsJan 18, 2023 19:59:49 ago (+1/-0)     (whatever)

There is a huge airline pilot hiring frenzy going on right now. In fact, I took the plunge just before the fake pandemic started to start the ridiculously difficult journey to becoming an airline pilot on my own dollar with no military flight experience to help get me there. There were a few reasons, pandemic included, that caused me to run out of money and not achieve that goal. Becoming an airline pilot is a pay to play game and with no money you’re fucked. And now there’s a huge shortage of pilots and I’m 1000 hours short to qualify but that’s not what this post is about. It’s about my hypothesis of why.

When the pandemic started around 6000 pilots were layed off. That was in the news and widely known. I would imagine that the recovery from that was easy because most of those pilots would immediately come back to their jobs and of the ones that didn’t there might not have been enough flight volume to support them so all of that evened out. Also thrown in the ones that early retired for refusing the vaccine. My guess is that issue easily sorted itself out but here we are with a shortage and also regional airlines recently damn near doubling the pay for pilots. International pilots probably were forced to get the vaccine and others who are NPCs went ahead and got it. Now we have all these news stories about concerns over pilots and adjustments to EKG specifications. This current shortage of pilots has to be from that. It makes sense that they would be quiet about the reason but a little logic and it seems to be the smoking gun.

Either way, I’m not going to try to finish up and go to the airlines. I’m not going to have a big corporation try to tell me to do something or get fired. There are other flying gigs I can try to get that don’t require the vaccine so I’ll keep my eyes open for that.

Those are my thoughts on what’s going on. I’m sure it may not be widely known that the airlines are in a frenzy to hire pilots so I wanted to throw that out there for you to consider with everything else coming out about airline pilot health. I’ll just stick to being a flight instructor as a side hustle here and there when I need a few extra bucks.

Thanks for that info. I do think it's more and more pilots or sideline those regional airlines are finally going to have to pay people instead of paying them like they're paying McDonald's. Not to mention the fact that you used to have to fly right seat you had to pay for the privilege of flying right seat to get enough hours to become a captain. It was a disgrace. Anyway I wish you good luck and thanks for that information. It's kind of interesting. I think every kid dreams of being a pilot at some point and I certainly thought about it. But I'll tell you becoming a truck driver is a lot easier and in many ways it's more fun and it's certainly cheaper to do and it's much the same thing. And the pay is better at least starting out.

Funny you should say that because that was my fallback plan. I’m driving a dump truck for the time being.

You have to work at lower end jobs first too and they treat you like shit and make you fly way too much. You get off the plane go to your hotel sleep 2 hours and then back in the plane.. you'll be on call too. So you don't know if your going to fly or not so no drinking. If you drink at all anyways... just sucks not knowing

Then you'll owe a ton of money after becoming a pilot and hope you make enough to eventually pay it off. The stress will kill you.

Actually after those young pilots for the regional airline died they changed the rules so they cannot work pilots like that anymore they can't even work truck drivers like that anymore. They are very strict time limits on how long you can be flying and you actually have to be in bed and sleeping for certain number of hours between flights. So those days are over. And it sounds like from what this guy is saying that the regional airlines are actually being forced to actually pay people now. If it gets bad enough they might actually be forced to actually train people and pay to train people which wouldn't really cost them that much but they just never had to do it before.

Little too late for some of my buddies but I guess it's good they were forced to change.

Do you have to talk to the women or can you just ignore them?

Depends on if they pay you, or you pay them.

Of course the big worry is now these regional and other airlines are saying they're only going to hire black people and women to try to equalize everything in the fact that I matter is you're not going to be hiring people based on capability so you going to have very ignorant stupid people were flying planes and you really don't want your pilot to be ignorant and stupid and not being able to think on his feet. You don't want him to graduated pilot training because he was given lower standards when he's up there in the plane and no one's going to be able to help him.

I don’t know because I wasn’t there. What I know if from all of the different FB groups I’m a part of full of pilots and friends I’ve made along the way who are there now. I can say that there were corporate jet jobs that required it because Canada required the vaccine so I would assume the airlines required those pilots who flew into countries that required to to get it.

Truck drivers escaped having to get the clot shot for the Canadian routes. What they set up instead was a thing where the truck drivers from America would just stay in their cabs and deliver the goods into Canada and the truck drivers would never get out of the cabs and then they go back to america. So truck drivers escaped having to get the clot shot to be able to deliver to Canada and trucking was so imperative to the economies of Canada that there was no way Canada could actually cut off the trucking so they had that leverage to be able to negotiate that.

I would bet the airlines had the same arrangement.
