Seems like you could ask the HoA for a variance due to the shortage. After all if the house is sitting there without a door it's not any better for them just because no one is living there.

It's funny my neighbor across hte street was under renovation for like a year during the pandemic after their house nearly burned down. The idjit that their insurance company hired to remodel had a broken compressor that could wake up the entire neighborhood. But I felt bad for the guy and didn't complain. One of my neighbors did though.
