This is what happens when the world turns away from God, and no longer attends Church. I'm at fault here as well, mostly because my parents brought me up to hate service by not giving us a choice in whether we attend or not. If the majority had understood that by distancing themselves, they would be empowering the Muslims, they might have continued to be good Catholics.

The church was probably surrounded by customers when it was built 164 years ago, and remained so until the area became a ghetto. Then the Mudslimes moved in. Better to move on to more fertile ground. Filling the pews is the point. Can we blame anyone for taking $250k so the place will be turned into a place for idolatry? If a property can't be afforded it's going to be lost anyway. So burn it and walk? Or rather take the $250k and help pay church bills elsewhere in the era of dwindling tithes.
