No worries, that can be confusing in fairness. We do use the names interchangeably ourselves so media tends to follow suit. And should you ever be in Ireland you address police in that way too - they can get pissed off if you refer to them as “officer”, and nobody here likes to be referred to as sir or madam or anything too formal like that.
